Dearest Curious Foodie,
Be curious no longer, for I shall impart to you the wonders of one of my favorite little spots in Salt Lake City. If you are a visitor from out-of-town, I definitly recommend it to you! It is an example of some of the very best SLC has to offer. 9PLEASE keep in mind that there is an automatic 18% gratuity built into your bill. This may seem shocking and horrifying to some people, however I assure you that it is well worth it.)
The food, my dears, is excellent. It is on par with the food I have had at well-known restaurants like Mildreds or Mallow Borough Market in London. The ingredients are fresh, locally sourced, selected with care, and the food is presented beautifully.
They offer excellent vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. Some standouts for me have been the breakfast bowls with tasty crips veggies and vegetarian protein. Additionally their waffles and French toast are out of this world. I have enjoyed their mochas, goldent lattes, and lavendar lattes. Oh and their baked goods! I am afraid I have been lax and have not included pictures of them. They have a lovely rustic European feel to them with the inclusion of dried flowers and herbs. They are lovely but not fussy in appearance. You need not eat them daintingly with fork and knife but happily munch on them and feel zero guilt for scarfing them down.
I appreciate the choice of the French linens and the beautiful pottery plates. The interior is an interesting mix of plants,, French country, with an industrial twist (can we say moss wall?!) and a dash of historic coolness with the exposed bricks and the chains hanging from the ceiling in the main dining area. The service is excellent, maybe it's because they truly care about their staff and want to provide them a living wage and time off (thus the 18% gratuity).
Anyway, I hope you will give them a try. Please don't let the slightly higher prices deter you. You are paying for quality and excellence my lovelies. So go now, eat,...
Read moreI loved you but it's finally over, Rose. When we first met, I fell instantly in love. Your coffee was the best in Utah, and really anywhere. Your avocado toast was to die for- it was on the freshest, thickest, chewiest bread loaded with whole grains and seeds, served with the simplest and yet most delightful greens lightly dressed in a gloriously delicious lemon dressing. I would drive 45 minutes regularly to have your food. Pretty soon you got busier and it took awhile to get coffee or food but it was still worth it to me.
Then things started changing. You got even busier. You opened a cafe on the side. I was happy for you! Everyone should see how wonderful you are! But then you started changing things. The delicious greens served with your avocado toast disappeared, replaced by a few micro greens on top of the toast. Your prices increased. The toast shrunk. The avocado slices got less and less. Prices increased again. The avocado was replaced by a very thin layer of mashed avocado. Finally the bread was replaced by white bread that you could find at any grocery store for a dollar.
But I still kept holding on to what we had. I thought, well, I won't get avocado toast anymore but your coffee is still amazing. I'd still hit it up anytime I was in the area. But then the coffee and service started going downhill. One day I got a legitimately bad latte. I was crushed.
Still, I held a soft spot for you. But today I drove out of my way to get coffee and you were closed. 10 minutes early! Everyone was in there but you were just closed.
Rose, you've let me down for the last time. I'm done paying premium prices for average food. I'm done showing up, only to find you didn't keep up your commitment of staying open during your regular business hours. Call me if you ever get your act together. I'll be at...
Read moreThe owner is extremely hostile to women with children. I have never been so appalled by an experience in any customer service related establishment. A friend and I met here for breakfast and I had to bring my toddler daughter who, in the course of our time there, had gone to pull a toy out of her diaper bag, which had then accidentally caused a clean diaper to fall out. I didn’t see the diaper as it was opposite to the side of the diaper bag that I was facing. Rather than approaching me with discretion and kindness, the owner loudly and condescendingly came and ordered that I pick up the diaper. Shocked and embarrassed by the spectacle, I went to pick it up and she proceeded to say that she couldn’t believe that someone would just leave a diaper laying on the ground. I told her it was a clean diaper and had fallen out by accident and that I would happily pick it up but would appreciate that she exhibit some semblance of decorum and understanding as I had not seen that the diaper had fallen out until she approached me so rudely. She then demanded that my friend and I leave the restaurant immediately. I couldn’t believe how she was behaving and asked what business it was of hers to come repeatedly and rudely interrupt my friend and I, to which she replied that she was the owner of the establishment. It was a truly shocking experience. I am not the kind of person who writes reviews, but I’ve never experienced such alarming hostility, utter lack of class, and terrible behavior by anyone, let alone a business owner. I truly hope the owner is able to find some courses on customer service, etiquette, and personal decorum....
