Reposting, as the wifi cut out while I was posting this the first time. ~ We arrived in SLC earlier than expected and called Hyatt House SLC to see if we could check in a few hours early (no expectation that we could, just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask). We were told no rooms were ready yet, but that they'd see if any just needed and inspection and would call us back. We never received a call back. Oh well! No big deal, just killed some time around town until we could check in at the regular time. ~ After check-in we headed up to our room to relax. Almost immediately, someone from the hotel came and asked if we'd called about a broken TV. I said we weren't aware of the issue as we'd just checked in, and the employee just said "Okay, bye!". My mistake, I guess. An hour later when we tried to watch TV, neither of the two TVs in our suite worked, and one didn't even have a remote. We called down to the desk around 3:45pm to see if someone could help us and they put in a maintenance ticket. When we left for dinner at 6:30, we went to check in on this at the front desk but the only employee was very preoccupied with someone as the hotel had oversold the type of room they pre-booked. We opted to just head out instead of wait as we could tell this wouldn't be resolved quickly. Around 8:30pm we called down to the desk to check on this and there was no answer. We went down to the front desk and the only employee appeared to be on break (no biggie, everyone deserves a break) but the people they were hanging out with went behind the desk and into the back, so it seems like off-duty employees were hanging out on site. Once we were able to talk to the solo front desk employee, we were informed that there is only one maintenance employee for both this hotel and the hotel next door. Yikes! Our maintenance ticket was still pending. It's really unfortunate that nobody told us there was an ongoing maintenance issue with our room when we checked in. This isn't the first time we've had a maintenance issue with a hotel room, but it's certainly the worst service we've had for it. It's now 24 hrs later and nobody has come to assist us. I appreciate there are worse issues than non-functional TVs but a nice part of any vacation is kicking back in your room after long days visiting the sites. ~ The room itself was fairly clean, but there were still areas of the room that looked as though they hadn't been properly serviced (footprints on pleather ottoman, etc). There was also a note at the front desk that said housekeeping would only come every-other day. We typically don't utilize housekeeping during our stays anyway but something to consider if you like your room refreshed during your stay. Everything at the hotel appears fairly new but cheaply done. Both of the outlets next to the bed only have one functional outlet, so we had to pick if we wanted the lamps to work or to plug in other devices. The shower door in our bathroom won't fully close/is sagging on the hinges a bit. The shower head seems old/cheap compared to the rest of the fixtures and we cannot get the setting to adjust. Apparently the freezer is also not freezer-level cold, as the sorbet we bought as a snack was pretty melted when we went to eat it later. ~ If we visit SLC we would not stay here again. Had the service been better, we could have overlooked the other issues, but for such a new hotel, the little things being off adds up. Having only one person at the front desk on a Saturday seems unfair to both the employee and guests, and only one maintenance employee for two hotels is pretty ridiculous. Hire more employees/pay them more so they actually take care of this place. We had a better stay at the Best Western all the way out in middle of nowhere...
Read moreIf you like the room temperatures at 76* then this is your hotel! Found out this is a franchise hotel so it’s safe to assume the profits don’t go back into the hotel. Each room has its own air conditioning unit; however, it is controlled by the hotel. Lowest rooms go is 70. Now, that may be fine for you, but not to this cold weather person in her mid 50’s! Everyday the air conditioning unit resets itself back to 76 so daily you are fighting the temp in the room. Maintenance was kind and brought us a fan, it was great, only problem is the outlet near the bed didn’t work. Every time you plug in the fan, the cord falls out of the outlet. So disappointing for the cost of over $200. a night! Pros were Rose at the front desk and Jake from maintenance. Both were very professional, kind and helpful! They offered us to stay next door at their sister hotel, The Marriott. They were booked. This is how I found out that the hotel is franchised owned. The Hyatt House and Marriott are sister hotels. Anyway, as nice as the hotel looked and as kind as the staff was, we will not stay here again or recommend to anyone. Clearly the owners are not reinvesting into the hotel or willing to pay for cooler air conditioning temps in the hotel. Lastly, make sure you let the hotel know if you have a car for the parking garage behind them. Our parking was free, but our son stopped by to visit with us for 53 minutes on his way home from work. Since he wasn’t staying at the hotel, he received a $80 parking ticket. He was under the impression under one hour was free. I called the hotel to dispute and they said it is a third party vendor and nothing they can do to help which we understand. She said we can contact third party vendor to dispute. They could take their time and if that happens the ticket goes up to $120 for being past due. Just know, there’s NOWHERE else to park! I...
Read moreAfter a long 10 hour drive to Utah, I Just Checked in this evening today 7/12/17 and requested a new set of sheets after I inspected my bed and there was hair on the fitted sheet. As I was waiting for the new set I then proceeded to take the sheets off and there was more hair , some pubic and used dental floss on the mattress cover. I was disgusted and informed the front desk to see if someone was able to change the mattress cover for me but the staff that handles that was already gone for the day. Unfortunately the front desk informed me there wasn't another room available as all of the rooms were booked. I took pictures for evidence and kept the card with the name of the housekeeper who supposedly cleaned this suite so I can bring this up to management in the morning. I informed the front desk if housekeeping can change the entire bedding in the am so I can feel better about laying on the bed at night. I still feel uneasy as I now have to wipe down the entire suite to feel better about the cleanliness of this suite. I have not inspected the sofa bed yet for my kids as I will do that soon. Stay tuned for update if there is more to tell. We will be staying at this hotel until Sunday as we have already reserved these days. It is sad that the employee who turned over this room thought cutting corners would be unnoticed as the bed is the most vital thing in a hotel room. Thinking twice about staying here again if visiting Utah in the future. Day 2 Breakfast was great so I had to up the stars 2...
