I've waited a few weeks to write this review because I was very upset with our families experience and wanted to give myself time to see if I was just overreacting. Unfortunately the longer I go the more I see why our experience was not hardly what we expected or in my opinion worth the insane amount of money. So our first problem was with the fact that I did this for my Aunts birthday and set up for six of us to go. Now being a bigger group I set it up month's in advance but once we got there we were separated on two different tables with a couple joining on the other table while our family was split. Which was super odd considering had we known a group of six had a forced 18% gratuity even though we were not seated together. We could have just come in three and three and not forced to pay a gratuity and it would have been the same. That alone is another quam I have, an expected gratuity which on the website is not listed and is only mentioned in one preparation email. The whole time it felt like we were being rushed and the girl helping us was nice but seemed very flustered as were most of the silversmiths there. She also admitted to not totally knowing how to help me with my ring that was a resin and rock inlay. My cousins and I on one table got finished nearly an hour before our other family and had to sit and wait while they had similar rings that took almost double the time. Unfortunately it seems this whole environment at the City creek location is getting as many people in as possible which made our family planned birthday include two other people when the girl helping their table seemed rushed and flustered as it was with so many people to help. Yet another problem was in an environment where you will be waiting for polishing or other things done by your silversmith which I get waiting but they put the music incredibly loud making it hard to hear the instructor or just talk with family while waiting. I gained a massive head ache alone from the music which one girl working there even was greatful as we paid when someone turned it down saying "thank goodness now I can hear myself think." I work in retail and do family and kid camps so I come from a background where seeing how lacking the environment was made it so much worse to me. Your customers make your business and rushing an event that should be somthing that brings people together and makes memories into a hectic, loud and unpleasant experience for a $130 price tag or more individually is regrettable at the very least. This could be a fantastic time if done right but as it was for our family and seemingly for the couple added to our group it was a birthday event I regretted bringing my family to for both the time and money spent. I understand city creek is an expensive retail outlet and I know the rent must be atrocious yet treating your customers like they should just expect to spend a wad of money and pack in as many people and rush things does not create an environment that makes people want to come back. I think a good supervisor would really help some of the problems I saw with those working there to help and support them better.
In the end I would not send family or friends to do this after our experience.
(P.s and no they don't validate but like honestly that's low on the problem list at...
Read moreTraveled to visit family in Utah and added this to one of our activities together. The process for four of us to make a ring was on track to take three hours or more. As we were placing stones, our instructor accidentally cracked my stone between two steel pallets on the table. I could not pick a new stone because each ring is made to fit the exact stone (one of a kind). Meaning I would not be able to use the ring I created. My husband also made a ring for me. Thankfully, his was okay and I was staying positive that I had his. We were waiting on our silversmith to do the final polishing and she comes out to inform me that she nicked the ring my husband was working on while buffing it. At this point I was overwhelmed that my husband and I had spent three hours working on rings and were leaving with nothing. What could’ve been a memorable experience, felt like a waste of time on a short trip. You spend $75 for the experience, then $18-$40 for a gemstone, and multiple add one of detail from $5-15. If you are not careful you will walk out of there paying around $120 for a ring that is comparable to a pandora or kendra scott ring for double the price. The silversmith was kind and apologetic. She was great and I know it was a bad moment, they claimed it had never happened before or was very rare. She is completely forgiven and no bad feelings there. This is not meant to leave a bad review on her talent just making it known. The manager offered to remake one ring of my choice and send it to me in the mail. The only issue is, I lost all sentimental value of my own work or my husbands. The experience was really ruined at this point. I took them up on he offer to remake the ring I was working on and picked a similar gemstone. They said they would create and send it within 3 days. It has been 15-18 days and I still have not received the ring. My mother made a ring and there was a flaw in it as well. They offered the same solution for her, for it to be remade and mailed to her. She received her ring within 10 days. The idea and experience is unique and exciting and wish it could’ve gone better...
Read moreI had been messaging gem studio on Instagram asking about the charm necklaces before they started offering charms at this city creek location. I didn’t want to drive all the way to Provo (45 min drive but city creek is still 25 mins away from me) so I waited a few weeks for them to offer it at other locations. I had been looking at their Instagram posts to decide what charms I wanted just to be disappointed when I went to my appointment only to see 3 trays (not even full) of charms at the city creek location. They didn’t even have one of the 7 charms I had chosen based on looking at their videos. It would have been good to know that you’d have a lot less options due to you guys just starting to offer charm necklaces (that’s what the guy helping us told us). Apparently my friend and I were the second group to do it at the city creek location. Honestly, if you didn’t have all the charms you show on your social media, then maybe don’t advertise it and have people book (and pay $5 nonrefundable fee to book!) just to be disappointed! I didn’t even end up making a necklace and you guys wouldn’t refund my $5. My friend made a bracelet and earrings, she chose the cheapest option and still ended up paying $80 not including tip which is insane. I rescheduled for the Provo location but thought about it later and canceled my appointment bc I decided I didn’t want you guys to get anymore of my hard earned money. $85 for a sterling silver chain alone is insanely overpriced. Not to mention the charms being Amazon quality being $5 or more EACH. I do not recommend this place at all. I found a different charm necklace company with actual reasonable pricing which I will gladly purchase from after this...
