Okay so I try to venture in different cafes in search for great ambiance and of course… amazing latte art. Yes, I care about what the latte tastes like but I’m going for a vibe when I write. This cafe is quite quaint whit many tables and great food options—mostly pastries. I asked the server specifically about latte art before ordering to which she replied “I’ll see what I can do”. I wasn’t too confident but there were photos of latte around when I did my research so I was hopeful. She was very polite and kind; her demeanor was very inviting. Although it didn’t necessarily meet my latte standards visually, she executed well with the taste. Not sure if I’d be back because as stated earlier it’s all about latte art for me.

I stopped by here for dessert. I had their cappucino with their lemon ricotta cupcake. I took an almond croissant home. Many places don't know how to make a croissant and keep the butter from burning out of it, therby losing the softness we all know and love in a croissant. This place did it right, and filled it will just the right amount of almond paste. Not too much or too little. It was dusted with powdered sugar and topped with almonds to make a neat presentation. The little bistro is just as you'd imagine, cute high top tables, some benches and a glass case full of French patisserie, brownies, and cookies. They have salads and bowls as well as breakfast. A cute little stop in Gaslamp near Petco park.

We had the Chanel sandwich which lacked flavor. A little salt would have gone a long way. The included cream cheese was severely lacking, making the entire sandwich a bland protein loaf. Matcha latte was also bland. French vanilla coffee was alright, but I still got charged the full price for both drinks despite the sandwich including a coffee, which was confirmed by the staff before ordering. I should have mentioned something after seeing the charge, but the staff didn't explain anything despite my question. Also all of the pastries have no price listed, forcing you to ask the staff how much each item is. Some small improvements would go a long way for this place, but unfortunately I will not be returning.

Cafe de l'Opera has quickly become my go-to spot for delicious baked goods. With a heart full of satisfaction, I can confidently rate them 5 stars.

From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance of a small neighborhood cafe. The interior creates an atmosphere that is relaxing. Whether you're seeking a tranquil moment alone or a friendly catch-up with loved ones, Cafe de l'Opera caters to all your needs from breakfast to baked goods to take home or to the office.

Now, let's talk about the real star of the show – the pastries! I must say, whoever is in charge of their baking is a true culinary genius. Their lineup from cinnamon rolls to croissants are a feast for the senses, perfectly balancing flavors and textures. Every bite feels like a symphony of taste, leaving you craving for more.

The selection of pastries is extensive and varied, ensuring there's something to please every palate. The croissants are an absolute masterpiece; their flaky and buttery layers melt in your mouth, transporting you to pastry paradise. And let's not forget about the delectable macarons and cupcakes, each a work of edible art. From rich chocolate indulgences to tangy fruit sensations, the flavors are spot-on and the presentation is impeccable.

Moreover, the staff at Cafe de l'Opera is friendly, attentive, and passionate about their craft. They take the time to explain the different pastries on offer, making helpful recommendations based on your preferences. Their genuine enthusiasm for the culinary creations only adds to the overall experience.

The cafe itself is clean and well-maintained, reflecting a commitment to quality. Whether you choose to enjoy your treats in the cozy indoor seating area or opt for one of the outdoor seats, you'll find yourself in a welcoming environment that makes you want to linger with your laptop.

To top it all off, Cafe de l'Opera offers a "decent" latte to complement your baked goods.

In summary, Cafe de l'Opera is a haven for baked goods enthusiasts. With their exceptional pastries, delightful atmosphere, and friendly service, this cafe is a hidden gem in East Village. If you're searching for a place to satisfy your sweet tooth and experience culinary bliss, look no further.

Highly...

This hole in a wall unassuming cafe has the best croissants in San Diego! They bake their croissants in small batches, so they’re always warm, crispy, flaky, fresh buttery and delicious!

I’ve also had the cinnamon bun made with the croissant pastry, so it’s very light, crispy and cinnamony.

We’ve had the almond, chocolate, almond/chocolate, blueberry and cream cheese, and they’re all delicious! I’ve also has the creme brûlée toast (which you had to order the day before, but I don’t think they serve them anymore, unfortunately), and they’re amazing: pudding-like, custardy, unbelievably delicious! I think this is how the French eat their French toast.

I have also had the breakfast sandwich: egg, cheddar avocado on ciabatta, and it’s also very good.

We’ve also had the tuna melt and the smoked turkey sandwich with mustard aioli and opera dressing. Very delicious!

Their coffee is 100% organic, and their teas are high quality loose leaves rather than tea bags. I really like their Earl Grey.

It’s owned by this very nice couple. The service is very friendly. Sometimes it can be a little slow because they make everything fresh, but it’s definitely worth the wait.

Without a doubt, their croissants are the best I’ve had...

I stumbled upon this charming little French café tucked away in downtown San Diego, and it truly felt like discovering a hidden gem. Family-run and full of heart, this place immediately stood out with its welcoming atmosphere and genuine hospitality.

The coffee here is absolutely top-notch—smooth, rich, and clearly crafted with care. I also had one of the best croissants I’ve had outside of France—perfectly flaky, buttery, and warm. But the real standout for me was the avocado sandwich. Simple, fresh, and flavorful, it’s the kind of meal that leaves a lasting memory (and had me thinking about it long after I left!).

What I especially love is that this is a small, humble, family-operated café. Supporting local businesses like this one feels good because you’re not just getting quality food and coffee—you’re contributing to someone’s dream, someone’s story.

Whether you’re a San Diego local or just visiting, I highly recommend making a stop here. It’s the kind of place that quietly wins your heart and keeps you...
