The restaurant had a cozy feel inside and out. It looked inviting. The menu was enticing with a mixture of standard French fare and other non-traditional French dishes. We were, however, hangering for some comfort French meal so we ordered the quintessential Duck Leg Confit and the Beef Bourguignon. The duck leg rested on a bed of cous cous and pumpkin bites with a light dressing of some mint sauce. Confit generally means the meat is cooked in its own fat and with proper preservation, the meat should be full of flavor and, most importantly, melt in your mouth. This dish was far removed from the desired savory-melt-in-your-mouth feel. It was dry .... so dry that some bites were similar to chewing a piece of duck jerky. Not what I was expecting. The Beef Bourguignon had a very thick sauce that got thicker as it cooled. The beef itself was moist and flavorful. But, after a few bites, the stewy sauce became overpowering with a very salty profile. We were not able to mop up the stew with bread, which is what we would normally do. It was too much for our palate. Perhaps, we caught them on a slow night. But, unfortunately, with main staples such as Duck Confit and Beef Bourguignon at a French restaurant, there is little...
Read moreIf I could give this place more stars, I would. My best friend and I decided that we wanted to go somewhere on Fill more for a light bite and maybe something sweet. Not much is open on Fillmore during the weekday so we settled on Chouquet.
Everything we ordered was a 10/10. The service matched this. I'm betting that any negative reviews are from people who were already looking to complain about something.
l ordered the short rib, even though I wasn't that hungry.
It was one of the best braised short ribs l've ever had. I ordered another to take to go for my husband as I knew he had to try it.
We also ordered an amaro and chocolat fondant. Fantastic.
Stefan, our server, was an absolute gem. He was knowledgeable, funny, and attentive.
The wine was fantastic and honestly hands down some of the best priced in the city. It's extremely hard to find a decently priced wine list in the city right now so this was a great find.
It was pouring rain when we were dining here. We sat outside under the awning and the rain combined with the French music just made the ambiance so delightful.
I'd highly recommend ignoring any negative reviews and take a chance...
Read moreI had dinner there with some friends. Among other things we ordered the coq au vin and the boeuf bourguignon - both of which were recommended, and were presented nicely.
Perhaps I had high expectations since I previously worked in a french restaurant and am familiar with the recipes. Both dishes were OK at best - something you might expect from a restaurant catering to the tourist crowd, which this restaurant is not.
If I lived in the neighborhood I might go back just to support a local business. However given that I drove into the City, there are many better options.
Service was friendly and prompt. However having waited tables myself many years ago, I couldn't help but think of what previous maitre d's with whom I've worked would have said about a waiter serving customers food sporting a long beard and a ball cap.
I realize I'm of a different generation, but it seems a little disrespectful towards your customers to serve food dressed as such unless you're serving casual food like pizzas, tacos or burgers.
Please Ron, you...
