La Mediterranee — Restaurant in San Francisco

An office party earlier this year was catered by La Mediterranee. The food was so delicious that I had to come to the restaurant. I finally got the opportunity last night.

Service was outstanding! The host was so welcoming and the staff were very nice. And the space is inviting. It’s like being in a Nancy Meyers movie that takes place in a historic neighborhood in Manhattan. There’s lots of pictures on the wall and other knick knacks. We sat at a semi private table at the entrance that separated by an oriental rug. I love that vibe.

We started with falafels. They were crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. I ordered the chicken pomegranate, which is one of their popular items. It’s delicious and quite a big portion! The chicken has a tartness from the pomegranate and it falls off the bone. The rice pilaf was flavorful and I like that it had some chickpeas to give it a textual contrast. The hummus was yummy with the pita bread. It comes with 4 drumsticks and I could only eat two. There was enough for lunch the next day.

Out of the three side options, I chose the lentil soup. It was comforting with lots of lentils. It was kinda like a minestrone, but better.

I skipped dessert because I was so full, but I’m definitely not skipping it next time I dine here. I’m glad to have read they’re staying in the Fillmore and I hope they stay there for a very long time. It would be a travesty if this place left as it brings an old-school charm to this...

I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant, visiting at least twice a month with my family and kids. We’ve always loved the food and the warm, kind customer service. Unfortunately, my experience last week was truly disappointing and far from the standard I’ve come to expect.

When I was served my food, items were missing from my Mediterranean meza. I kindly asked the server, a woman, for the missing plates. She simply stared at me, said “yes,” and then went on to pack food for other customers without addressing my request. After waiting for over 10 minutes and seeing no action, I asked a different server for the missing food. While this second server apologized and even offered us more pita bread, they excused the original server, saying she did not speak English very well.

What made the experience worse was the original server’s attitude. She kept staring at us with what seemed to be an upset expression. At one point, she laughed while talking with staff in the kitchen, all while looking in our direction. This behavior felt disrespectful and unprofessional, especially in a place where we’ve always felt welcomed.

We love this restaurant for its amazing food and typically great service, but this is not the kind of experience I want for my family. I encourage management to address this issue to ensure all customers continue enjoying the warm and inviting atmosphere this place is known for. I get to eat all over San Francisco. Tonight was my first time at La Mediterranee on Fillmore Street. I was returning from a doctor's visit in the Presidio when I began to think "Perry's", or give La Mediterranee on Fillmore a try. It was close to 5:00 PM. Everyone knows what that means. With seconds to spare I made a decision. I got off the 1 California at Fillmore, crossed the street and there it was, La Mediterranee. Now for those who don't know much about La Mediterranee, it features Armenian cuisine. For those who know little about Armenian culture, people, or cuisine, here's a tip. The Armenians are one of the greatest, most advanced and educated cultures in human history. They are the most genuinely friendly people anywhere and their cuisine represents all that's good about the people, their history and their families. Lamb Lulle was my choice. Lamb Lule is Local, grass-fed Superior Farms Halal Lamb meatballs, served in a tomato-onion sauce, served over rice pilaf.
