We were regulars at this location but we will never be going back here because the customer service I had today was unacceptable. I found a piece of short hair in the ice cream and took the ice cream back to them to show what was in the ice cream. There was a long pause from them and Sophia kept saying she doesnt know what that was when it obviously should not have been there and asked if I want it to be thrown away without apologizing in a sarcastic way as possible. To her reaction, I demanded the refund and told her that first thing she should have done was apologizing. Only then she apologized in a rude way possible and snatched the ice cream and threw in the trash can behind her. I stared at her because of her actions and I told her what she is doing was awful. She then threw a bunch of coupons and slam them on the counter making everyone around us feel really uncomfortable. She treated me like some homeless or something - her action was like “take these free coupons and get lost” in front of everyone making me look like some bad customer. We left the shop immediately feeling so angry making me write like this.
Piece of hair can be found in food even with the extra precautions. My mother owned and operated 4 restaurants and bakeries before so I know what it takes. Its the workers customer service and how they handle in situations like this.
I brought so many of my friends and family introducing it as best ice cream place in the city. There are a lot of other good ice cream locations in the city that I love so Salt and Straw is not the only one. I will never be bringing anyone to this...
Read moreThis Salt & Straw to me is just OK compared to the one I've been to in Portland. From the experience/staff to the actual flavors itself, I feel like Portland was just a tad bit better in those categories. I got to try out several flavors here, including: Imperial Stout, Roxie Road, Sea Salt & Caramel, Olive Oil & Lemon, Peach Vinegar Cobbler, Honey Lavender, Coffee, and a couple more that I can't remember. Some of the flavor combinations, to me at least, weren't really clicking and wasn't really that good. It feels as if it was a little too adventurous. Maybe other's did enjoy them though. My normal go-to is Coffee ice cream, but to my surprise, their coffee ice cream here, as coffee ice cream is so simple, was not that good...pretty disappointing. I had it in my previous visit and I kind of regretted getting it as soon as I stepped out the door.
I remember in Portland, the flavor that caught my attention was the Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar with Black Pepper. Now that definitely sounds like some random insane flavor, but that was REALLY good! I ended up getting the Peach Cobbler flavor here in San Francisco on this visit, but it's once of those flavors that are really really good in the first few bites, but then get's a little too rich and tiring.
The line is always long at this location as well, in prime time Pac Heights. So if you're heading this way, be prepared to wait anywhere around 15-30 minutes for your cone.
They should bring the Strawberry flavor to this joint, I'd be back everyday!
I have become one of the great disciples of salt and straw and I pray to its closest location at least 6 times a day. I was lost without salt and straw and it has shown me the light.
The flavors no matter how crazy are always good if not great. The high quality ingredients give a strong backbone to the ice cream that tempers stranger and stronger ingredients like blue cheese. Everyone who I have introduced salt and straw to, has loved it and they do an excellent job of accommodating a wide range of people. Whether it be the excellent vegan options or the wide variety of flavors that can please any person whether they prefer sweet, savory, or salty flavors. My only issue with salt and straw is that the ice cream is too good. The honey lavender ice cream is so excellent, definitely one of the best ice creams that I have ever had, that I have a hard time choosing other flavors. The exception being Candycopia, a Halloween flavor, which will haunt my dreams for the rest of my life as I think about what I have lost.
I struggle to think of a person who would not enjoy at least something at Salt and Straw and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone whether they are looking for new unique flavors or...
