A fantastic memory! I called a couple days before to see if Izzy’s could accommodate my last-minute party of about 35 people (not easy to do!). Edwin made everything SO EASY for us! Every other month or so, our firm hosts large client/partner dinners at the very best restaurants around the country for our c-level executive clients. Over the years I have heard raving reviews about Izzy’s so I thought it would be fun to give it a try. I got a little nervous after reading some of the whiny reviews that didn’t match at all the feedback I had received about the restaurant from my friends. I went in the day before to scope it out. They treated us like family and shared with us the rich fascinating history of the restaurant, which we were then also able to share with our guests the next night. It’s one thing to go to dinner, it is quite another to have an experience.
We learned that Izzy’s originally existed during the prohibition era and then re-emerged with its current owners in 1987. It has been awarded a ‘Legacy Business Status’ title by the city, which is given to a few selected restaurants are considered to have a historical/cultural relevance granting them certain protections and financial assistance to support its longevity. There is so much more history to learn about this wonderful gem, I would encourage you to ask them to share more with you when you visit.
Okay on to the food and experience. I don’t want to say we are hard to please, but it is fair to say our group is hard to impress no doubt. Some of their staff has been there for 20 years++, and they were simply outstanding. The night of our event Mark was managing, and he and his crew were engaging and attentive – I really couldn’t complement them enough….Jollie, Angel, bartender Steve….to all that helped create a great memory, thank you! (And I apologize for any spelling errors in the names and for the other names I have forgotten).
My group was still talking about the food days later. Everything was a 10! The drunken shrimp was incredible. Our servers encouraged us to order calamari for the table, which I felt was going to be a little boring but I did it anyways and wow, there is something really special about their calamari. Most of our guests ordered steaks and every single one was cooked as ordered!!! That was probably close to 25-30 steaks that all came out at the same time. I don’t even know how they pulled that off. Well done Izzy’s, well done. We will definitely be back....
Read moreI've heard great things about Izzy's from a couple different people already so I finally took the opportunity to try it myself. It was pretty good, but I didn't quite understand why people thought it was amazing. I like the idea that the restaurant is named in honor of Izzy Gomez and the general atmosphere is quite comfortable and laid back. Personally, I didn't like the lighting - it was a little spot-lighty, while I prefer a more dimly lit dining experience. That being said, the lighting wasn't bad enough for it to ruin the experience, just enough for me to remember I didn't like it.
The service was pretty good. Our server was friendly-ish and fast. He seemed like he didn't really want to be there, but overall he was nice to us and offered suggestions on the menu.
The food was okay. My steak (New York Sirloin Steak) was cooked exactly as I had requested and it was a huge cut of meat. The entrees also come with two sides, so overall you get quite a bit of food. I was definitely FULL when I left. Nothing stuck out to me though. I'm not sitting here thinking how delicious my steak, creamed spinach, or house potatoes were (recommended by our server as the most popular items).
I'd definitely try it again. It's good food. But I wouldn't go around...
Read moreWe visited the newly reopened Izzy's and had a great time. Eddie greeted us warmly when we arrived just before our reservation time. I had just enough time to order cocktails at the bar before being seated at our table.
The bacon washed old fashioned was delicious. My bride had a perfect negroni.
Ginger was our server and she made sure we had a great time. She made us feel special even though she was extremely busy.
For dinner we shared everything starting with the cudo, and wedge salad. On to the ribeye (done medium rare with au poivre and a side of horse radish) Izzy's potatoes and Izzy's creamed spinach.
Izzy's of old, you could share the creamed spinach, but I would recommend each ordering your own.
The potatoes were not as big of a portion as before, but still large enough to share.
We finished the night with cronuts for dessert. This was the surprise highlight.
For day 3 (Valentine's day) since the official re-opening they really didn't miss a beat.
Be sure to have a reservation. Tables set aside for walk-ins are hard to...
