El Rincón de la Plaza — Restaurant in San Juan

Worst experience I've ever had in my entire life! I ordered empanadas for an appetizer. Our waitress came to get my friends order but never got mine. Mind you she had to get someone to translate just to get their orders. Which is understandable because we spoke English.My friend got the waitresses attention and told her my friend didn't order. She proceeded to tell me I had ordered my food the empanadas. So I said that's fine meaning I would eat those as my dinner. My friends received there order and mind you I still got no empanadas. I went downstairs to order food from the bar since their seemed to be an issue. I waited and a manager rudely stated how can I help you. I stated I needed to order food as he begrudgingly asked me was my waitress behind me with an attitude. I said yes I do believe that's her. He was like well let me here your side of the story as rudely as possible. I simply stated the whole incident and he told me that I wouldn't even look at my waitress in the eyes and said everything was fine. I'm like no that's not what happened as he tried to escalate the situation as I put my card back in my wallet and then ask did I want food as he yells at me I was not looking at him in the eye and that's not how things work around here. I was never once rude I simply got my things from upstairs and walked out crying because I was beyond embarrassed and mad to be treated this way because I'm not that type of person. I wouldn't recommend dining at this restaurant because of how poor the service was. Our server was not attentative, no check in when we got our meal. I felt like since we didn't speak fluent Spanish, our server didn't put in the care. The diet coke tasted very water down in terms of there was not that "diet coke" taste that many people know. The food that we ordered was bland and nothing special.

We noticed a Spanish couple that came in 15 minutes after we did and they had our server as well. I notice that the server was more receptive to them since she took the time to converse with them longer than she did with us, however, at some point, the wife from the couple went to speak to the server and manager about something. When the conversation was done, both her and the husband stormed out of the restaurant and left.

When it came time to pay for our check, we notice that there was an automatic gratuity added to our bill. We requested to have it taken off because of how poor the service we received. Our server came over and gave us an attitude that every single restaurant at La Placita automatically charges a gratuity fee and that they will not remove it. Our server then said, "Well pay for whatever you want" slams the check down on our table and walked away.

I have never seen such unprofessionalism from someone like our server. I don't know if she was having a rough shift because of how busy La Placita gets. But I certainly will not recommend this place for any tourist because of how inadequate the...

Only because I really want to eat here… am I leaving a review. Pictures and reviews looks great. The manager or host was so rude ! I sat at an outside table that had a QR code menu and this woman came up to me saying she needs her table. I didn’t even realize she was an employee until she kind of wiped the table off with her hand. She said I had to get up. I said I’m trying to order, why can’t I sit ?
