During my inaugural trip to Puerto Rico, Georgie’s BBQ was the first restaurant I visited, and it set a high bar for the rest of my culinary journey. Nestled in San Juan, this local bar with a buffet-style restaurant offers a genuine Puerto Rican taste and vibe. There’s no touristy atmosphere here—just pure, authentic neighborhood charm.
The menu was a delightful introduction to Puerto Rican cuisine. I enjoyed chicken wings paired with rice and beans and tostones (fried plantains). The food was incredibly well-seasoned and delectable, capturing the essence of local flavors. I also had a large cup of passion fruit juice, which paired perfectly with my meal, adding a refreshing touch to the overall experience.
One unique aspect of Georgie’s BBQ is the dual role of the bartender, who also served as my waiter. She was not only beautiful but also very attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
Another highlight is the affordability. You won't break the bank dining here, making it a perfect spot for those wanting to experience local cuisine on a budget. Just remember to bring cash for tipping, as there's no option to tip via card.
Overall, if you’re looking for an authentic, non-pretentious San Juan experience, Georgie’s BBQ is a must-visit. I highly recommend it for its genuine neighborhood vibe and...
Read moreDuring our 5-day trip to San Juan, we stayed in Ocean Park neighborhood first, then Condado later, and Georgie was one of the few local places that were open on our first night. So we tried. Pros: friendly, Latino music all night, some food is good, especially the burger. Cons: not speaking English, menu not having prices upfront, serving on plastic plates and plastic utensils, the mofongo de pollo was pretty good but salty, music was really loud and hard for us to talk, the neighborhood was kind of dead. I think for homemade real Puerto Rican food as many other reviewers say, it would make sense to have $8/ dish, serving local regular customers. We paid (with generous tip) $44 for 3 people and the meal was served on disposable wares. There was no pricing on the menu and language barrier was huge, so, I just paid whatever was quoted at the end. At that price, I would prefer a nice chain restaurant, or I would pay double to have a fancier meal. It became clearer when we explored around. In Isla Verde neighborhood, street style foods are cheap. In Condado, there are so many options in a lively area with great vibe. In Old San Juan, it could be a bit pricey but the quality of foods and...
Read moreWe stayed at an Airbnb a couple blocks away from this place the night before we flew home. We wanted an authentic meal and the Uber driver recommended this place. We had it for dinner and it was so good we went back for lunch the next day before we left for the airport! We had the garlic shrimp and a Cuban sandwich. Both were excellent. We also tried a few of the appetizers and they were all really good. Of course we had to have one last piña colada, and my daughter got a strawberry lemonade and they were both amazing. On a whim, we decided to try the flan. It is made in house and it was to die for! The prices are reasonable, not near as expensive as in Old San Juan. The space is air conditioned and had enough room for us to bring our luggage since we were on our way to the airport. This is not fast food, so don't expect your meal immediately. All the workers were very nice. If we make it back to San Juan we will definitely...
