We visited B Matthew's for brunch before we all went our separate ways after celebrating my best friend's bachelorette. It was a great way to finish our weekend!
There was some confusion around reservations. They don't take reservations (at least for brunch), but you CAN call ahead and get on a waiting list, which is what we wound up doing since we knew it'd be busy anyway and we had a fairly large party of 7 coming. It only took about 30 minutes for our table to be ready, which I didn't think was bad at all for around 11 AM on a Sunday.
The space is bright and modern and feels very inviting and spacious. The acoustics are good so it's not hard to hear each other even when the restaurant is busy.
Service was excellent, from the friendly and personable host to our sweet, energetic, and hardworking waitress. Our glasses were never empty and our food came out fast. She was kind enough to offer to split our tab for us, which really helped ease the burden of trying to settle debts in the aftermath!
I was pleased to have my sweet tea to drink. The few people who got cocktails enjoyed their mimosas and their whiskey and coffee. I took a sip of the latter and it was good -- not very sweet, and a pretty strong drink.
Overall, the food was super yummy and really pretty affordable (affordable = kind of unusual in Savannah, or so we found, lol!). I didn't keep track of what everyone got, but I know we got two crab benedicts (folks who had it seemed very happy), some kind of biscuits with sausage gravy, some kind of veggie scramble, and more. I got the spicy jalapeño breakfast wrap with no tomatoes and breakfast potatoes as my side. Overall, it was great!
The breakfast potatoes were cooked perfectly and well-seasoned. I enjoyed them plain or dipped in ketchup. My wrap was stuffed with goodies and the scrambled eggs were cooked to my liking. My only complaints are very minor. First, there was a little too much avocado for my preference in some bites (made it a little mushy), and second, I didn't actually think it was very spicy, despite the jalapeños and pepperjack cheese. Fortunately, I remedied that myself by applying some of the Texas Pete sriracha (didn't know that was a thing but turns out it's delicious!) I found stocked on the table.
Overall, I'd definitely order the wrap again. It was filling, affordable, tasty, and didn't leave me feeling heavy and sluggish, which I was very thankful for on the drive home. Thanks for a great...
Read moreIt is hard to find words on how to describe my exquisite experience while dining at B. Matthew's. Although the parking is not their own, there is ample across the street that is surprisingly cheap. From the moment I crossed the street, the ambiance of this eatery poured out of the place. It is most welcoming with its mortar and brick walls, combined with the wood grain and modest decor. It draws you in like a cozy tavern after a long travel. With that said, their service is in a league all of their own. They are quick, polite, and always ready to cater to whatever your needs may be. They offer a variety of choices ranging from healthy, vegetarian, gluten free, or even portion control. They are quite accommodating. On this visit I sought to try a wide variety of their menu. I started with a voodoo coffee, which is the perfect pick me up. It is a subtle, yet edgy take on a commonly over looked american staple. Along with my coffee I enjoyed the Lamp Post and a side portion (something that my waitress happily accommodated me with) of their Shrimp and Grits. Everything was amazing, but the MVP of the entire meal has to be the Shrimp and Grits. It was just the right amount of salty with the perfect amount of savory. The shrimp were plump and juicy, while not over powering the entire dish. I washed it all down with a bacon bloody mary, and not only tasty but very well poured. A shout out goes to Kaitlin, my bartender. Upon finishing my feast, I ordered somewhat of a dessert beverage to compliment the salty, and savoriness of the previous dish. "The Dude" is a perfect compliment to the gourmet meal that had been placed in front of me. At last, I come to the fare. It is very reasonably priced to say the least. The phrase, "you get what you pay for" earns its rapport with this fine establishment. It is definitely not on the cheap side but it is far from breaking your bank. From drinks, to the entrees, everything hits the sweet spot that we all often search for, you know, the happy medium between expensive and a good experience. So all in all, this swanky, yet reserved establishment is one that should be favored through the generations. From families, to the freshman in college, if you're looking for a great breakfast/brunch, this IS the...
Read more1st time to eat at this establishment. OoohMySweetness was the food and servers in this place divine A+ and worthy of praise. Everything we had was wonderfully put together and cooked by professionals. I am so well pleased and I expect nothing less from entry to exit. I am doing this review weeks later and I am smiling and excited from memory. And unfortunately, there's a BUT... and THANK ALMIGHTY GOD it doesn't spoil my desire to come back again to enjoy the food and amazing Wicked Coconut Cake that can't be so wicked but simply heavenly while being served by one of your best servers Mr. Emil A. So now for the BUT issue. Upon my arrival, I had a seat. No one was there. Which was ok. While I waited, eventually another customer came in. She stood. The hostess arrived at the front. She immediately acknowledges the woman standing, although she wasn't directly in front of her. She was off to the side. The right of her. Although the woman knew I was the first customer she stepped right up when the receptionist acknowledged her. Then I said, ma'am, I have a reservation to the receptionist. Because the receptionist overlooked me as if it wasn't ok to be sitting down I supposed. If my memory serves me right maybe the receptionist stepped away to prepare her table. But the customer says to me before being sitted, I didn’t mean to cut in front of you. Lol. At this point, its all hilarious to me. I think they both were wrong and rude. The receptionist should have automatically asked after properly greeting both of us customers with a hello said whose's next, please. This is my humble thoughts on the matter. Momentarily that really upset me. I wasn't expecting this to happen to me, but it did. But nothing a great servers service and that heavenly cake and darn superb food couldn't heal. I told the server that this is my new favorite place and my husband agrees. Also, I am not a Coconut eater, and because I desired a slice of cake that was of the vanilla or white dessert of sweets I chose this. And Mr. Emil A. recommendation gets an AAA+ . Hip Hip Hooray for Emil. A., The Wicked Cake Folks and the Chefs making our night amazing. Thanks So Very...
