I absolutely loved this store. We went in here while visiting Savannah and walking down Broughton Street. Its a neat looking store with samples to try and employees with friendly faces and smiles. Maybe its working for Savannah Bee, maybe it's just that Georgia southern charm you hear about.
If you like honey they have everything honey. Honey for tea, honey for deserts, honey for cheese, honeycomb, honey soaps, lotions, lip balm and even Mead. My favorite skin item has to be the body butter, or maybe the beeswax salve? Both of them are sure to clear up any dry looking hands.
As I was walking around I saw what appeared to be beer tasting in the back and it turns out they have Mead tasting here - mead is alcohol made from honey (never knew this nor heard of it before). And it was my lucky day. Black Friday special was 50% off. Yes please!!!
It was a nice assortment of meads to taste. They were all yummy in their own way. We couldn't decide on the X R Cyser (which tastes like Apple pie in a glass) or the Tupelo one which first tastes like honey then each taste after has a different lingering taste. I got the bananas foster for my neighbor. We picked the X R Cyser and the banana fosters and went to pay. Well lucky me again the lady tells me if we buy 3 bottles we get 10% off entire purchase. So we got the Tupelo one.
They have another store on River Street but after going in this one I didn't even go into their River St store.
Buy the Tupelo honey - its more money than the others but it is so delectable you...
Β Β Β Read moreI had such high hopes for this place, and was disappointed. The store is nice, but the quality of the honey is not what you would expect. The honey was okay, and very expensive for what it was. I have had much better honey. The whipped honey was very grainy and the orange blossom honey didn't taste like orange at all. The worst was the mead tasting. What a freaking rip off. The man offered a tasting of one mead for $4 or we could do all 6 for $24.... Buddy. At $38 a bottle, the meads were already a bit pricey. The whole point of a tasting is to allow customers to try different items so they can purchase them. Paying for the tasting completely defeats the point. I love mead and most likely would have purchased a bottle or two but not without trying it first. A tasting doesn't have to be an entire glass, a tablespoon would be perfectly acceptable. I truly don't understand why they do "tastings" like that. Very disappointed. It felt like they were trying to make a profit off of tastings which again, completely defeats the point. You can go to renaissance festivals and get entire glasses of mead for like $6. I would...
Β Β Β Read moreWe had such a wonderful experience at Savannah Bee Companyβtruly one of the unexpected highlights of our trip to Savannah!
Ian gave us an engaging and informative bee education that completely exceeded our expectations. I didnβt think I had many questions about bees, but once Ian got started, I realized how curious I was! He answered every question with ease, humor, and genuine enthusiasm. You could tell he really enjoys sharing his knowledge, which made the experience even more fun. Getting to see the hive up close and snap some great photos was a unique treat, and we appreciated that we were able to bring our 5-month-old baby alongβshe was happily included the whole time.
Afterward, we did the complimentary honey tasting with Jordan, who was just as impressive. He clearly knew his stuff and walked us through the different varieties of honey with thoughtful explanations and great recommendations. His passion for honey really came through.
Savannah Bee Company is a fantastic stop whether youβre looking to treat yourself or find a special gift for someone else. Weβre so glad we wentβdonβt miss it if...
