Having lived in Tucson for a while I was familiar with Prep & Pastry and very excited to have a location in the Phoenix area!
While in Scottsdale for an anniversary getaway my husband and I chose Prep & Pasty for brunch one morning. We were sat immediately on the patio but it's unfortunate it was with a view of the mall parking garage.
We were a little confused on who our server actually was because we had at least 3 or 4 different people come to our table after sitting down but eventually one soft-spoken girl eventually ended up coming back a few times. It was hard to get her attention as she would bring something to a table nearby quickly glance at our table and then walk away, or bring us something and not ask if we needed anything else before walking away.
I had the Guac Toast and side of potatoes which was amazing and probably my favorite avocado toast I've ever had! My husband had the Chicken & Toast and was a bit disappointed with the chicken.
However my main feedback was with my tea and the lack of attention to the service. I love a great cup of tea and I asked the first gentleman who came to take our drink order about the Creme Brulee tea. He didn't know much about it and couldn't describe it so I took a chance and ordered it. It was actually very good!
However, it was brought out in a individual tea pot with a cup. No saucer, no spoon, no sugar or honey, no lemon, no creamer - nothing. The same with my husband's cold brew. No sugar or creamer brought out with it. And there was not any sugar or salt and pepper on the table either. With our waitress hard to flag down our drinks sat there for a while until we could have some sugar and creamer brought to us.
Even still, we were just brought sugar packets and my husband still had to ask a separate time for creamer and I was left to stir my tea with a knife. I finished my pot and ordered a second but had to specifically ask for a saucer, spoon, lemon and extra sugar. By this point I felt like I had exhausted the appropriate number of times I can make a request before the waitress gets frustrated and thinks we're high maintenance.
Overall I really enjoyed the food but was left feeling disappointed with the little things that I felt should have been anticipated. I'll be back but hope they fine tune some...
Read moreThis place is Dynamite! Telling you the food and service was amazing doesn't honestly do this great restaurant justice. It's located in a beautiful area on the Scottsdale Waterfront, across from the Scottsdale Fashion Square. So what did we eat, here's the scoop:
Everything Croissant Sammie using Fresh Eggs with Muenster and American cheeses, topped with Arugula, and a Pistachio Pesto. *I have never seen an Everything Croissant before today. I hope the pictures do this thing justice because it was a work of art. The croissant was perfectly golden brown on the outside and soft, buttery, and flaky on the inside. It had the perfect amount of chew for a Fresh Croissant. It tasted like it was made that morning. *Who has ever heard of pairing a Pistachio Pesto with Eggs? Not me....Now I'm a believer! Easily one of the top breakfasts I've had....EVER! *Not many pair a perfectly mild Muenster Cheese with American. Just an outstanding combo. *hash potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft inside, completely different than your average.
Dossant, better known as a CRONUT, combing all the best parts of a flaky, buttery croissant with a doughnut. It was topped with a Nutella frosting and a strawberry. This added just the right amount of sweetness, while still allowing the buttery nature of a croissant to shine
coffee was good. Tasted relatively strong. Not quite like home with my Jura or Hario Pour Over. But it was still good...much better than typical restaurant coffee.
My Guests both had:
Next Visit: I'm eyeing the Green Chile French Toast with Jalapeno Relish. Sounds so unique and delicious. I can't wait!
Please check this out if interested in great breakfast and brunch, with unique and flavorful...
Read moreWe arrived right when they opened at 8:00 AM and were seated right away. We opted for patio seating which was great given the weather this time of day/year. As with most restaurants with dine-in service nowadays masks were required to enter the restaurant but once we were seated we could take them off. Wait staff remained masked at all times.
We started with coffee which was a nice breakfast blend. Then we ordered the Blueberry Dossant ($5) which is a hybrid donut and croissant with a blueberry cream cheese frosting and blueberry fruit on top. It was light and delicious, just what you would expect from a donut/croissant pastry.
We also ordered the Plain Jane pancakes ($9.50). They too were delicious. Three pancakes nice and dense with fruit and a dollop of whipped cream on top.
After breakfast had settled we opted for a few of the brunch menu items. I got the Cast Iron Duck Confit which is braised duck, shallots, spinach, cabernet braised cherries, Prep’s potatoes, cherry goat cheese mousse, and over easy eggs ($13.50). Everything tasted amazing, especially the Prep's potatoes and the duck. I wasn't too into the cabernet braised cherries or the cherry goat cheese mousse but everything else married very well together. I'll also mention that there was a little too much of the leafy greens that was not spinach, not sure what it was and the eggs were cooked too long for over easy as most of the yolk was cooked and not runny like I'm use to for over easy.
All and all what we ordered looked and tasted amazing. We will be making many future visits so that we can try other items, just too many goods items to choose from. The wait staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. Bottom line, the prices are definitely in line with what you would expect to pay for quality ingredients. I highly recommend Prep & Pastry for breakfast, brunch and lunch. They close at 2:00 or 3:00 PM most days...
