I wish I could say my experience was better, but it just wasn’t good enough to justify the high prices.
Ambience: The somewhat remodel was well done, but completely sterilized the original’s character, even with the old pics and clearly fake reclaimed pier siding above the bar. Still, I feel bad we were like one of what seemed like four tables occupied on a Friday night at 6:30.
Service + Food (it’s a combo story): The server introduced themselves and then, oddly, a different one soon showed up to actually do the job of taking our orders and delivering the drinks, apps, and food, then the original asked one question, then the sub managed the rest of the experience.
The server who did the work was very good in all ways, except for one that matters: assuring the dishes were appropriate for the table. There were FIVE adults among us ordering from an unfamiliar menu, meaning we don’t know the portion sizes. One might think an order of, what, $21 I think, clams, and an order of crab artichoke dip might make for a munch. But if we’re wrong, that’s when the server should let us know. Not when she brings out a tiny bowl of Manila clams with TWO tiny slices of baguette, which isn’t enough for one person much less five. (Also the dip came with a butter knife. For a crab dip. In their favor it was only half an inch deep so perhaps a knife was appropriate in the end.) When I reminded the server there are five of us and we could use more bread for the clams and dip she agreed. And brought us four tiny slices. I asked if they were having a bread shortage, since in total these slices may have equaled one whole dinner roll, and she said it’s just the serving size, would I like more? There are five of us, I replied, what do you think? She brought us more bread. Four thin baguette slices. I think we were charged for both extra servings but I never saw the bill. Either way, serving size may not be her fault but she should let us know the bloody serving size and ask how many, or, shocker, just bring us what humans might consider adequate. And since that is the serving size then whoever was behind that decision needs a new line of work, because this entire review is what that line of thinking creates, not happy, glowing customers. It’s just petty to be so severely cheap and dense. Not the server’s fault but she could have worked with it better, right?
Food: Otherwise the food was adequate. My Alaskan Grilled Salmon was shaped like a McRib, so I suspect it was not fresh, but it tasted OK. I didn’t realize there was mashed potatoes because they were covered entirely by the salmon, and not because the salmon was large, not thick, because it freaking wasn’t, but because the mashed potatoes were so paltry they were hardly there. Likewise there may have been six halves of Brussels sprouts - not six sprouts halved, six halves. Surprisingly my friend and her daughter split a Cobb salad and both their plates could hardly fit the contents. Go figure.

Read moreMy visit to Ivars Seafood on the pier in Seattle was nothing short of fantastic, blending delicious food, speedy service, and great value with a vibrant waterfront vibe. This iconic spot exceeded expectations, making it a standout dining experience. The service was impressively fast. Even with a busy crowd, the line moved quickly, and the staff took my order with friendly efficiency. Within minutes, my food arrived, hot and perfectly prepared, letting me dive into my meal while enjoying the stunning Puget Sound views. The quick turnaround was ideal for a bustling pier location, ensuring no time was wasted. I opted for the fish and chips, a classic done right. The cod was flaky, tender, and coated in a crispy, golden batter that stayed light, not greasy. The thick-cut fries were perfectly seasoned and plentiful. I also tried the clam chowder, a creamy, flavorful bowl packed with tender clams and potatoes, offering warmth against the cool Seattle air. Every bite showcased fresh, high-quality ingredients, and the menu’s variety, from grilled salmon to shrimp, tempted me for future visits. Pricing was a pleasant surprise. For a prime waterfront spot, I braced for high costs, but Ivars keeps it affordable. My fish and chips were around $12, and a hearty bowl of chowder was under $7. These prices felt like a bargain for such generous portions and fresh seafood in a tourist hub. I left satisfied without feeling overcharged, a rare win for pier dining. The atmosphere elevated the experience. Ivars offers great indoor and outdoor seating options, catering to any preference. I chose an outdoor table to soak in the salty breeze and watch ferries glide by. The indoor seating looked cozy, perfect for cooler days. Both areas were clean and well-maintained, with a casual vibe that welcomed everyone, from locals to tourists. The staff ensured tables turned over quickly without making anyone feel rushed. A quirky highlight was the signage about the birds. Signs playfully noted that “seagulls have big appetites” while “pigeons do not,” adding a fun touch to the experience. It was a lighthearted nod to the seagulls swooping nearby, hoping for a fry, and it sparked smiles among diners. This clever detail made the setting feel even more lively and connected to the waterfront environment. The staff’s attention to detail sealed the deal. Tartar sauce and malt vinegar came in perfect portions, and the packaging was practical for eating on the go or at a table. The team was warm, answering menu questions with enthusiasm, making me feel like a valued guest despite the fast pace. Ivars Seafood on the pier is a must-visit. The food is fresh, flavorful, and fairly priced, with speedy service that doesn’t skimp on quality. The indoor and outdoor seating options, paired with the amusing seagull and pigeon signs, create a memorable atmosphere. Whether you’re after a быстрый bite or a relaxed meal with a view, Ivars nails it. I’m already planning my next trip to this...
Read moreThe bar tender almost sent me away after I showed her my driver’s license that had expired within the week and explained that I was waiting for a new card (takes 2-4 weeks). She wouldn’t let me sit at the bar until I showed her a current ID, thank God I had another government id in my wallet but that was a terrible start of dinner.

The oysters on the half shell are a must-try—perfectly chilled and briny with a refreshing mignonette sauce that elevates their natural flavor. For something more indulgent, the lobster tail is a true showstopper, perfectly cooked with a delicate buttery finish that melts in your mouth. The seafood platter, with its generous mix of shrimp, clams, and fish, is equally impressive, served in a flavorful, creamy sauce that complements the fresh ingredients beautifully.
The drink selection is also top-notch, featuring a curated list of wines that pair perfectly with each dish, along with refreshing cocktails that add an extra layer of sophistication to the meal.
