I was a little hesitant to come to this place because of some bad reviews I've heard from friends regarding their menu. I figured I should give it a try for myself to check it out.
We were supposed to make it for happy hour but ended up showing up for dinner. It wasn't that much of a problem because we saw on the menu the multitude of choices they had a varying price points. We ordered a ton of small plates and sides, and a couple of the larger plates. We tried out the fries, mushrooms, baguette, rabbit pate, beet salad and pork belly. Sounds like a lot of food. And it was. But we're both foodies, so it was okay.
The fries were great. Not too greasy. The mushrooms here are possibly the best sauteed mushrooms I've had in Seattle. I don't know why. But just the degree to which they are cooked is perfect in my opinion. Their bread was good, because it was the right amount of toughness on the outside and very tender on the inside. The rabbit pate wasn't my favorite, mostly because of how heavy it is. The portion is actually very small, which is deceiving. A couple of bites of it, and you'll definitely feel it sitting in your stuff. I'd say it was more better than worse. The beet salad was just fine. Nothing ridiculously special but the selection of beets were the right amount of tenderness. The pork belly was my absolute favorite. It was perfectly crisped on the outside skin, and the inside meat was juicy.
Overall, I enjoyed this place. The lighting is a bit questionable. And it was a bit stuffy in the restaurant. Not a fan of no A/C in a restaurant. The decor is cute with all the rustic wood. If you have a choice, don't go for a small 2-person booth, even if it's just 2 of you, because they are so insanely tiny you have no chance of ordering...
Read moreIt's a good sign when a restaurant has the name of the chef on the menu. It's an even better sign when they have a board on the wall that has their vendors listed. And it gets even better when all their vendors are local.
They indeed source as many ingredients as they can locally and therefore their menu changes on a regular basis as they can only serve what's in season.
Their menu has almost only rather creative dishes. Their most common and usual dish might be their burger. Despite to that everything is innovative and special. All the food I tried here was excellent. I especially loved their rabbit dish. It was so tender and cooked just perfectly. They get the seasoning just right without over or underdoing it. There's a focus to let the original flavor of the ingredient stand out and speak for itself and not covering it in too much salt or pepper.
Absolutely love their creations. Some Michelin star restaurants can learn from them. If they would make their portions significantly smaller they in fact might be able to earn some awards for their food.
The atmosphere here is amazing as well. Even if it's crowded, it feels very privat. The heigh ceilings and all the real wood throughout the restaurant create a modern, chic and warm atmosphere.
Service is friendly, in good mood and relaxed. They all have something to it in the way they act that it makes you feel calm and relaxed but still very well taken care off. Therefore it feels totally ok that they force a 20% serve charge on you.
Also try their desert. Everything is, again, truly amazing.
This is one of the most flavorful, feel good and relaxed restaurant on...
Read moreI noticed a few reviews from this past week are saying the exact same thing as I am about to - it may be worth looking in to fixing as they have a good product, but the delivery was a miss.
The food was incredible. Honestly some of the best we have had in Seattle. The happy hour pricing for food of such quality is great. Everything is $5.
Unfortunately, the service was dismal. My wife and I both work in the service industry so we like to think we are pretty forgiving, but we also know what is fair to expect from a server, even at the worst of times, and we both agree that this was probably the worst service we have ever received anywhere. The server forgot to punch in one of our glasses of wine and one of the food items we ordered was forgotten about as well. Most of our food was sent to the wrong table. At the end of the night, the server had to come back three separate times to get us to explain what we had ordered. This was the only time they checked in on us after taking our order. The bill they brought out had half of another table's drinks on it. Eventually, we got the right bill and sent our card back to pay. Didn't see the server for another 20 minutes and when they did come back they seemed to forget that we had already paid and needed our card back. Something was definitely very off with the server. We wondered if they were working concussed? One round of drinks and 4 appetizers took almost 2 hours. It looked like the two tables around us fully left without paying and I honestly can't blame them. Auto 20% gratuity seems VERY high for this...
