Incredibly hostile hostess, and racist server, paired with supermarket-quality sushi rolls (which have gone down from designer sushi to mush questionable mess just over the past ten years).
How would you feel, if, after succeeding in making a reservation online (because staff here does not stoop to picking up the phone... ever) - you showed up and the hostess, by means of greeting you, instead of "hello", would inform you that you are to clear your table by 9 pm, as they have other customers coming? (Spoiler alert - when we cleared the premises after 45 minutes, it was half-empty, and the hostess was lurking behind the curtain by the front desk, unable to give an intelligent answer as to where all the patrons have gone.
What if your server, during drinks order, informed you that "your accents are very charming but thick, and I can't understand them". (Somehow, in the past 25 years, my co-workers, my neighbors, my family - have no challenge understanding me asking "what is the country of origin of this wine?" - but a 20-something, cute as a button, server could not. Nor could she understand what my friends were saying. Oh yes - must have been all of our thick accents. So rare in Seattle. So... "charming") With that warm welcome from the hostess and the server, we proceeded to enjoy same orders we used to make 5, 10, and even 15 years ago - just a few signature rolls Umi used to be famous for. Apparently, not any more. Mushy rice. Fake crab. Invisible scallop. All that goodness that looked like porridge in all versions of the rolls.
What a horrible, hostile, racist, entitled bunch is running this place now....
Read moreThe hostess is one of the rudest people I've ever met in my entire life. They texted us to come for our table then proceeded to seat several people that came in after us with the same number in their party. This was 7:35pm Monday December 12th 2022. When we came in they told us they were cleaning the table. Then called another party of three that came in and put their names on the list after us and took them to a table. When we asked the hostess when we would be seated she raised her voice and said it has only been 5 minutes. I told her she didn't need to raise her voice and she repeated in a rude and disrespectful tone that we needed to wait another 5 minutes for the table that they texted to tell us was ready 10 minutes ago! Clearly there were multiple tables for 3 available as the sat multiple other parties of three while we were waiting. The simple point is no matter if it was a simple mistake, oversight or complete incompetence that caused a text message to be sent informing us that our table was ready when in fact it would not be ready for another 15-20 minutes the way the hostess spoke to us was unacceptable! Obviously we left and did not wait another 5 minutes for a table we were told was ready 10 minutes ago. The decor in Umi is beautiful and the atmosphere if you don't encounter this particular hostess is very calm and soothing with all of the plants and artwork. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the food. I will go back again to try the food but only if the ride and annoying hostess is no longer...
Read moreI recently visited Umi Sake House with a group of friends on a bustling Friday night, hoping for a delightful dining experience. However, our evening quickly turned sour. We had to wait around 40-minute before being seated.
Once seated, we encountered issues with our orders, although our waiter remained professional. Unfortunately, mistakes were made, leading to a complimentary dish, which was appreciated but did little to salvage our overall experience.
What truly marred our evening was a shocking incident involving a couple of wooden pieces that tore into my friend's pants, causing injury to her skin. We spent a harrowing 30 minutes in the bathroom painstakingly removing the splinters one by one. Upon bringing this to the manager's attention, his lackadaisical response was deeply disheartening. It appeared that little concern was shown for the safety and well-being of patrons, as they continued to seat customers at the problematic table without addressing the issue.
The quality of the seating was also subpar, with old seats that made extraction difficult. The wooden pieces embedded within them seemed akin to needles, posing a potential hazard to unsuspecting diners.
In summary, exercise extreme caution if you choose to dine at Umi Sake House. Our experience was marred by long wait times, service mishaps, and most alarmingly, a safety hazard that was met with indifference from management. Proceed with caution, as the risks outweigh the...
