I went in just wanting a quick trim to clean up my bob — nothing drastic. I even explained that my hair already had layers from a previous cut (different place), but all I wanted was to even everything out a bit so it looks smooth when I straighten it. My hair was shoulder-length, and the stylist and I agreed it’d be best to keep the length and only take off a little to play it safe.
But when she finished and straightened it, my hair was so much shorter than I expected. Definitely not what I asked for. She mentioned afterward that it ended up being a “corrective haircut,” but that’s not what I came in for at all. I was totally fine with the layers — they would’ve grown out on their own. I just wanted an even, clean look, not a whole new length. I was too shy to even say anything thinking it wasn’t that bad but after getting home and taking a second look, I can’t believe how short it is, it looks sooo bad on me!!!
To make things worse, I had added a deep conditioning treatment through the app because someone from the salon told me it was discounted… but I never got it. The stylist apologized for the rushed appointment, but honestly, that didn’t make up for the experience.
I’d seen Hatsumi before and had a great time, but this time I tried Shanna, and I walked out really upset. I’m not discrediting her knowledge, but this is not the haircut I wanted. I ended up paying $85 for a cut I didn’t want, and now my hair’s too short for my event on Friday. I’m really disappointed and don’t think I’ll be coming back. Added photos fore reference.
EDIT: PHOTOS don’t lie, here lies proof. The owner responded to my email and asked me to remove my Google review if I wanted a refund — which I found incredibly unprofessional and disappointing. Instead of taking accountability for what happened, she focused more on protecting her stylists’ image than acknowledging the poor service I received. My appointment was rushed, missing the deep conditioner I booked, and my hair was cut much shorter than agreed — right before an important event. I was a loyal client, but this experience and her response showed me how little they actually value customers once something goes wrong. You can keep your $85 dollars. I value more honesty and integrity. If anyone is interested in hearing what a disappointing and hostile treatment i received I’ll be more than happy to share...
Read more*updated: I don't know what's going on with them, but they've lost me and my partners business. The people that made me fall in love with the studio is gone. The space is gone. They stuck me with an expensive stylist that ended up giving me a so so haircut where I'll now have to grow the length of the top out again, but the experience was not great. The stylist unfortunately smelled of BO and told me way too much about her personal life, really really fast, like non-stop. She was very sweet and kind, but it was just...a lot. The "new" space is...looks slapped together and awkward. You have to go to the middle of the space to see the greeter instead of by the front door. It feels unfinished and temporary. If I'm going to pay $92 I'd rather have a much more relaxing experience in a calmer space. I also don't love seeing that they've essentially robbed someone in a recent review, as someone who needs every penny I spend, I don't want to risk that happening to me.
Original review: Vann Studio is amazing. Harlow books my appointments, and matched me up with Kaileen (which I am sure I have misspelled, so sorry). The match was an excellent one; she is a delightful person to get a cut from, and sends me out of the salon looking great! The salon in general is always a lovely place, everyone there is very friendly, personable, and welcoming, no matter who you talk to, and it's very accessible. I even saw a stylist using sign language with their client during a cut, which was really encouraging as a fellow disabled person. It's never too loud, and while everyone seems to understand what a sense of urgency means, you never feel in the way or rushed. They also offer coffee, tea and water. Tips are built into the pricing model, and while products are mentioned, theres not a pressure to buy them. (Though Im finally switching from grocery store shampoo and conditioner to the offerings there! I highly recommend...
Read moreTldr: Absolutely loveeee Vann Studio, and Shanna is such an incredible stylist! I first came to Vann Studio on a friend’s recommendation after moving from the East Coast. I was a little nervous since not many stylists know how to handle curly/wavy hair, but that fear disappeared right away. From my very first visit, the staff were so welcoming and Shanna took the time to ask how I usually style my hair and what I was hoping to achieve. After a few thoughtful questions she gave me a few suggestions some and after deciding the end result she got to work and gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had! Shanna is incredibly knowledgeable about curly hair, using a mix of dry and damp cutting to get the perfect look. A couple months later, I decided to go short and knew I could trust her again. She absolutely nailed it! She took the inspo I brought, tweaked it to suit my face shape and curl pattern, and the result was beautiful. At that appointment, we also did a partial balayage that initially went a bit lighter than I expected. Both Shanna and the salon were so gracious in helping correct the color, with no extra upcharge. It took a couple tries to get to the exact shade I envisioned, but she was patient, listened to me every step of the way, and delivered hair that’s a 1000/10 🤩 All in all, the stylists at Vann Studio are professional and incredibly skilled, yet also friendly and approachable, which makes the whole experience everything you’d hope for in a salon. Even if you’re usually shy or nervous to speak up, you’ll feel comfortable here, they truly listen and make sure you leave happy and feeling gorgeous. I’ll definitely be coming back for all my hair needs! Their products are also top notch, always leave my hair feeling super soft and hydrated. And they always offer you tea/water/coffee and candy which tbh adds to the...
