Imagine you have travelled across the world to enjoy the night-life of Seattle. You have just one Saturday night in this town that will have to last you the rest of your life because you won't be back again. You have scoured forums and sought recommendations and you have pinpointed one bar that aligns perfectly with your taste - it is a Rock n Roll bar in the true sense of the word. So you track it down, walking through the rain to experience this place that promises punk, garage punk, soul, and cold beer. In tow are your spouse and 21 year old son. Naturally you prompt the boy to produce his ID. That was not good enough apparently, they DON'T ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL ID. Apart from the fact that you birthed him 21 and a half years ago, can produce his driver's licence, you can produce a photo of his passport. The barman says that is not acceptable.
I am aware that establishments must adhere to laws (hey Australian here, it's a nanny state! ) . But we have travelled from LA, Las Vegas, Bakersfield, Sacramento, Yosemite, Mt Shasta, Portland in the past 2 weeks, and his ID was acceptable IN EVERY SINGLE BAR IN EVERY TOWN.
I traded my bands stickers for bar stickers in all the cool places up the west coast, and I have nothing but great things to report. We have enjoyed the USA and will return with great stories and lots of recommendations for our friends in Melbourne. But not this place. I love Rock n Roll. I don't like unfairness and lack of transparency or even worse, a thinly veiled prejudice against a family group.
As for your response - if it is a statewide issue, then how have we been accepted in every bar we have visited in Washington with no problem? My son carries an Australian driver's licence which has photo ID and it is not an issue. Tonight, we went around the corner and spent our money elsewhere and had a great time.
UPDATE So you are resorting to personal insults now. I have done nothing but give the facts. I am very confused as to why our ID is accepted elsewhere when going by the law you have produced, it shouldn't be.
We are leaving Seattle even more disappointed...
Read moreThis place is like a small secret hidden under Belltown. The owners/staff were beyond kind and helpful. The drinks are strong and unique (frozen drinks that aren't too sweet!). I was so impressed at how proactive the staff is as well. We had about 60+ people attend a party here (earlier in the evening, before the DJ and dancing began) and whatever we needed or asked for they were beyond accommodating. The vibe is kind-of a 60's-punk , but I didn't feel out-of-place either. People are there to just have a good time and no one is weird or rude. They have a jukebox, pinball, a photo booth and even big-buck-hunter! It is just a lot of fun to be there, and a nice break from the standard Belltown scene. (Added bonus... there is a hot-dog stand that sets up right out front.) I am excited to show this secret little gem to other people, but also love that it is a of a hidden gem. Perhaps, I will only show it to the...
Read moreI had a mixed experience at Screwdriver Bar in Seattle. On the positive side, the bar's ambiance was truly amazing, creating a trendy and inviting atmosphere that set the stage for a memorable evening. The drinks were also enjoyable, with a solid selection and well-crafted flavors. However, the unfortunate downside was the bartender's rude behavior. Their unwelcoming attitude overshadowed the otherwise great aspects of the bar. I hope the management takes note of this feedback and addresses the issue to ensure a more pleasant customer experience in the future.
We had a few rounds of Old Fashioned and the bartender refused to add an extra cherry along the drink. On asking again, the bartender demanded $5 per extra cherry he adds to the drink which he said in a very rude tone. Again, love the place but hate this service. Hopefully...
