Soul — Restaurant in Seattle

Overall, I would not recommend it. I'm sorry, but this is not soul food. I don't know what to classify it as, but soul is not it.

The good: I got grits with fried shrimp. The shrimp was delicious, and I got a lot of shrimp. The cornbread was delicious, but I wouldn't call it cornbread. It had a lemon flavor to it and reminded me of a lemon pound cake with no icing. The red beans and rice were alright.

The bad: The grits were way too salty, to the point that I couldn't even finish them. I felt that the chef used the right seasonings just way too much salt. The amount of salt made me feel physically sick. The Mac and cheese was alright but very garlicky. A lot of Mac and cheese that I've had in the PNW is prepared this way, so maybe it's just the preferred style here. The peach cobbler... I don't even know what to say about this. It tasted like canned peaches with whipped cream. They needed more cinnamon and sugar. The crust was soggy.

I also got red velvet cake, but I have not tried it yet, I will update once I have.

Each meal is about $22, while the dessert is about $10 each. The portion size combined with quality is definitely not worth the price. I would pay at most $16 for the meals. And only $5 for the size of red velvet cake slice. As for the peach cobbler, I wouldn't buy it again, no...

Unfortunately this isn’t southern at all. Everything tastes similar to canned goods, canned yams, and beans too. The beans were so incredibly salty almost inedible. Surprisingly the fish had no salt, none. So we ended up dipping them in the beans since those had so much excess. The fish I could tell was from frozen which isn’t inherently bad, but I think it’s been sitting in water for too long because the fish had no catfish flavor and was the same consistency as mashed potatoes. The hush puppies taste non homemade as well. Not only was the food unsatisfactory but our order took 40 mins after being told it would take 10. My family is from Alabama and Florida respectfully and if you are from the south this isn’t the place for you. As for Seattle standards this place is ok. Wouldn’t recommend this spot. I hope...

I took my son here to get food to eat while waiting to board plane, he placed order.We called to see how long it would take and was told 20-25 min so he decided to cancel order, female on phone with horrible customer service said we have to call Grub Hub to cancel so we did. Soul marked the food as cooked so he couldn’t get his money back. We were both visiting Seattle for the first time and found this place online. We called Soul and the same unprofessional worker pretended we never called and she never told us to call Grub Hub the calls were only 10 minutes apart than said he was suppose to come in and cancel plus a bunch of other nonsense.
