The restaurant is designed especially well for delivering a wide variety of fresh, exotic foods for customers to choose and have cooked for them in a rich soup broth. It isn't designed for atmosphere, personal service, decor or a relaxed environment. The experience begins like a Mongolian grill where you pick out food down a line and put it in a bowl for the kitchen to prepare. There are three important things to know. First, there's a large taste difference in the broth between what's called "no spice/childrens" and "mild spicy." The no spice is very bland and something like a plain chicken broth/bouillon. The mild and higher spice levels are a rich and very tasty broth. They don't explain that the no spice broth is very different. One of the five orders was mistakenly this plain broth when the person wanted a spicy broth. Another was a plain broth that could've been mild if they explained at the cash register that the broth is different, and not just without spice. That's two out of five orders it could've been better. Second, every meal has an automated announcement when it's ready saying: "Number XXX please come get your order." You then get up and get your bowl of cooked food. So you may hear this almost constantly throughout your meal. They could have more visual displays around the restaurant when orders are ready, and if someone doesn't pick up their order they could make an announcement. Third, There isn't any real decor, except an interesting wooden wall art relief of famous buildings around the world. There's a kiosk at the front entrance that is confusing and jams up people as they come in who think they need to do something with it, but apparently it isn't needed. Fourth, five adult men and women averaging 1.9 lbs of choices for their bowls was $159, without any drinks or tips. So, you could be spending $30-40 a person for dinner. You can take home leftovers though since you pay...
Read moreHot pot by weight ($10 minimum). I wish there was more red meat selection besides beef and lamb. My broth was very good but I wish you could request doneness levels. I felt the they way overcooked it. My veggies were mush and the meat was super firm. Free sauce bar but pretty basic items.
I wish they had soft serve for dessert that would have made it amazing.
Overall broth was good and flavorful and to be able to customize individually was nice. I got the classic herbal broth.
If it was hot pot by the lb and you could cook it in your own individual pot then it would have been perfect. Seems like the “chef” over boils everything the same without discretion. They don’t know what medium rare or al dente means.

Went there yesterday and requested less cooked and it was better but still not how I would do it. I prefer this place way more than the capital hill hot pot by the weight. This one has a better sauce bar and parking.

I think this is my favorite malangtang place around seattle. The broth is what set it apart from the others. I went to one earlier this week which had a little more selection and ambiance and came here today and that’s my verdict as of today.
Also when I went to get a to go box they threw my leftovers away. The manager was super nice about it and let me put in a to go order since it was their mistake. I got what would be my left overs about a half portion and she insisted I get more. Great service.
I wish they had soft serve!

My Broth Power Rankings:
Super tasty customizable soup! We just stumbled across this place for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Today was our third time coming back, and we've loved it every time! You pick a bunch of veggies and noodles and stuff and give them the bowl, and five or ten minutes later they return it as delicious malatang soup!
We've tried the original beef stock broth, the tom yum, and the curry broth, and loved all three of them! Warning that even the medium spicy level is not for the faint of heart. Big variety of proteins and vegetables to choose from. Pay by weight, and it can be easy to rack up the price with all those options.
Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Not super friendly for celiac folks and other severe allergies and such, with the shared tongs and everything; cross-contamination is basically inevitable. Love the dipping sauce side bar. They managed to find a seat for us even the one time we went when they were really busy on the weekend. Service is super friendly. Atmosphere is clean and crisp and inviting. Definitely would recommend! We'll...
