The Shop by Porter — Restaurant in Seattle

First time visitors to Seattle. We got off at the wrong train stop and stumbled across this place after a long day of travel (from Ottawa, Canada) and a 45 minute walk in the sun, with luggage. Put simply, it was amazing! After a delicious and thirst quenching beer, Ashton made us an amazing BLT using fresh made Focaccia bread and heirloom tomatoes. When the staff found out we were from out of town and wondering what we should do, they got together and made us a list of their favourite things to do in the city. The space was pretty cool, and the tea was good but expensive. Had a strange interaction with the barista though…when I brought my water glass and cup back to the counter to clean up after myself, instead of accepting it, the barista rather dismissively directed me to another part of the room to put it on some other table that was relatively hidden in the back. Not a huge deal, but it’s just strange to have an employee promptly deny you when you’re trying to be helpful and make you go through an extra step and when they could’ve just taken the dishes from me and said thanks. I thought to myself “Heck, why don’t I just wash it for you while I’m back here!🤪” I’m sure they’re a great barista, but just left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, and probably wouldn’t go back given the number of coffee shop options...

Very chic, comfy, modern and SPACIOUS café/lounge area! Porter apparently used to be for office employees only, so I'm happy it's open to public now. The menu had a good range of teas, coffee, and happy hour cocktails, with baked goods (Kyoto, Houjicha) from my favorite (Japanese/French) Mitten Bakery! Tables were evenly spaced out for decent privacy, with many plush chairs, and there's a variety of high quality, handmade gift/home decor/kitchen accessories for sale, imported from various countries in the world. You can also reserve private rooms for meetings etc.

Also two very stylish and clean bathrooms.

Staff were friendly and professional, thank you so much for the welcoming space. Can't wait...
