Xi’An Noodles, Westlake Mall, Downtown Seattle
Definitely a place worth stopping by for a noodle treat. This is a spin-off location to the original and well respected Xi’an Noodles located in the University District famous for its chewy hand torn Biang style noodles. For those not familiar, Biang (biang) noodles, alternatively known as youpo chemian in Chinese, are a type of noodle popular in the cuisine of China's Shaanxi Province. To be honest, they somewhat reminded me of a chewy, stretchy, more flavorful lasagna noodle with a unique but wonderful texture that somehow just bonds perfectly with whichever sauce is selected to slurp down. On this visit I selected the Beef Biang noodles where the noodles had been thoroughly enrobed in a rich and flavourful beef sauce, with just enough spices and chili to render a pleasant heat without setting one's senses on fire. In addition I had an order of the Lamb dumplings (10 plump little soup filled pillows) which were served piping hot with a side of chili sauce (oil) to further enrich the delicious spiced lamb meat enclosed. Servings were more than adequate in size and averaged $10 each. As this location is part of the Westlake Centre upstairs Bites on Pine Food Hall, seating is plentiful and the environment is clean, comfortable and...
Read moreSmall outlet inside the food court. It is not an extensive menu, but they do it well and fast. The lamb soup was very Tasty. But ask for a glass of water as it is really spicy. The only draw back, being a tourist, is that you need to order on their computer screen and the first thing you are asked if for a mobile (Cellular) number, that needs to be from the US. without this information it wouldn't allow me to continue with the order. And the queue starts behind you as you get stuck and can't progress. Thanks for the waiter inside that did the order in seconds. My request would be to add a skip button on this question, or get a staff to take the orders. Also be aware that when they close at 7pm, the Mall security comes and escort everyone out, if you finished your meal or not. Please be prepared to have...
Read moreLittle gem inside the mall. Went in today to try for the first time and was superbly impressed. It's also woman-owned so I'm extra happy it was good because I will be coming back to support!
Biang noodles are chewy and wide and dumpling feel very much like a mom and pop shop's. The noodle soup broth was light and delicious. The medium spicy level on the biang noodles was relatively mild for someone who likes spice but was really good.
All orders are done on the self order kiosk and it's really easy to track your order on screen or just wait for text saying it's ready. Everything was pretty affordable too which is an extra plus. It's in a good court area upstairs so plenty of seating around.
Excellent place all around, so happy to...
