So this is gonna be a long review, because my experience at CoCo Crêpes, Waffles & Coffee was very meaningful to me. I've always come by this place going to the nearby Costco's and every time I do, I gaze longingly when I see "Crêpes" as I drive away. Finally decided to try the place and gave a them a pretty shameless call on my birthday asking if they got birthday freebies. Yeah sometimes it's nice to get free food on your birthday! =P
Unfortunately, they did not have any birthday specials, but I was cool with that. I had always wanted to try crepes not served from IHOP ( sad...I know) anyways. The employee on the phone said that although they didn't have birthday specials, they could decorate my container. Although I had not expected anything of this sort, I thought this was a nice gesture nonetheless, so I said "sure why not?" Went ahead and ordered crepes-to-go for the family.
When I went inside to pick my order, the employee at the counter Elnaz gave a very thoughtful and sweet message about how she hoped my birthday was everything I wanted it to be and that she wished me well on fulfilling my dreams and having a good year. I was pretty blown away!
I came home and did the usual birthday shenanigans and took out my crepes. As you can see from the photos, Elnaz and the rest of the Coco's Crepes staff were very thoughtful and made my crepes carton look quite nice and even put a candle in. First time I've ever had a decorated carton like that.
We had bought the Turkey & Cheddar, Chicken & Vegetables, Chicken Avocado, and Chicken & Spinach crepes. I tried all four of them and I can't complain. The Chicken & Spinach was probably my favorite as I like that combination. You can also really taste the cheddar in the Turkey & Cheddar crepe, which is a good thing. The crepes were on a next level compared to the "crepes" I have had in the past. Of course, I don't have much to compare them to, but they were good and my whole family loved them. The crepes were not soggy and if you notice in the photos, the staff didn't drizzle the crepes with the sauce for the to-go orders as they would have for dine-in, which is also a good thing as the crepes could get soggy and we wouldn't want that.
I didn't get my birthday freebie, but that didn't matter as what I did get was even better. I got to eat crepes that were delicious and the sauces that came with were an extra bonus! I'm not usually one for decorations, but the way the staff at CoCo Crêpes, Waffles & Coffee in Sugarland decorated my meal was thoughtful and nice. They didn't have to do it, they could have just went ahead and asked what I wanted to order, which would have been fine. Elnaz and the rest of the staff not only took the time to decorate my meal, but Elnaz gave me a better gift than any freebie could and that was the gift of kindness and thoughtfulness with her thoughtful message, something our society could ALWAYS have more of.
Thank you Elnaz and the rest of the staff for the great food and for being awesome people! BE...
Read moreSometimes "foodie" establishments are the worst sort. The function is overwhelmed by the form and you are left with pretty, tasteless food (with or without the comma). I understand the contradiction, ordinarily. And I normally make concessions. But, sometimes, even their basic food is unworthy. Such is the case here, with Coco Crêpes. I love their look. The appearance of so many sweet and tasty delicacies on the menu makes you forget that you didn't really come here for desert. You wanted a fulfilling meal. I had a choice between spinach chicken crepes and a waffle. I chose the waffle. The default comes with berries and powdered sugar. I asked for just butter and syrup. "No sugar" she mumbled to herself as she put in the order. I got 2 iPhone-sized waffles with whipped cream and a small tub of syrup. No butter. As the whole thing with butter on pancakes or waffles is to have the butter placed on them while hot, the absence of butter meant that this was going to be a challenge. I asked the waitress for butter, and also reminded her I had ordered bacon. She didn't appear to recognize the urgency of the situation. I gave it a minute or two and decided I could do this faster myself, and headed inside to get butter. On the way in I passed my waitress. She had bacon, but no butter. I went to a counter and asked one of the 3 associates behind the counter for butter. The first two referred me to the third who understood me. At least she understood that I wanted butter. She decided I needed it melted, so I had to wait another 30 seconds for the microwave bell to ring. Back at my table, I poured the butter on my waffles, doused them with the syrup and proceeded to dig in. I was very disappointed. I might as well have been eating an english muffin with syrup on it. The bacon was decent. The waffles, though, were fraudulent. I wish I could say they were tasteless but their aftertaste endured even through a cup of the house coffee. The smell of wet cardboard closely resembles what I tasted that morning. I am not trying to be mean. I simply love waffles, ordered waffles, but am mystified by what I was presented. I do see why berries and powdered sugar are the normal accompaniment. I had some of my partners spinach crepes and they were fabulous. The place has potential. The waffle item, though,...
Read moreWe arrived there on a Friday afternoon and there weren’t too many people there, so it was pretty comfortable. The music was kinda loud, but the overall ambiance was really good (not sure about the yellow-black-retro-cottagecore theme, though). The menu was pretty extensive, so that was nice, and our server was really talkative and engaging so 10/10 service. After we ordered the drinks, the crepes came out really fast but the entrees took a while to arrive, maybe about 15 minutes, weird considering there were only a few other people.
The drinks were pretty good, but not anything special; the cococcino tasted like a normal mocha, if a bit bitter and espresso-y and interestingly like chocolate milk, and the hot cocoa was deffo better than swiss miss but not extraordinary. The entrees weren’t amazing, but not absolutely terrible either; the croque monsieur, which was not a french sandwich but an actual panini that kind of felt like a luxury grilled cheese, tasted really nice but definitely not for those that think cilantro tastes like soap. Bread was amazing, though- definitely drenched in butter, but has a perfect crispy-chewy texture and buttery flavor. The tomato soup tasted exactly like marinara sauce with pizza cheese inside, which really wasn’t to our taste considering it was a soup not a dip, and the Caesar salad was, you know, a salad. Typical, not outstanding, but nothing offensive. The crepes taste really good and accurate to whatever their descriptions are, but keep in mind that they’re super sweet and still covered in powdered sugar over all the sugary sauces. It's the kind of sweet that creeps up on you, and we ended up finding it a little difficult to finish because they were just so filling. Price-wise, considering how rare crepes are here in sugar land, it’s pretty reasonable (about 10-15 dollars), but the price creeps up on you. Overall, it’s a pretty good place. The ambience is nice to hang out in during less busy hours, the food is hearty and comforting, and the service is very polite. A little on the expensive side and there’s probably other places with better food value, but the experience itself (service, music, rare cafe vibe) made...
