Let me just say: if you’re anywhere near The Colony, TX and haven’t tried Taqueria Taxco yet, you’re seriously missing out. This place is the definition of a hole-in-the-wall gem—unassuming from the outside but absolutely bursting with authentic flavor and warmth once you walk through the door.
First off, the food? Fire. 🔥 I ordered the Trompo Tacos (basically al pastor perfection), and I’m still thinking about them. The pork is cooked on a spit and gets this smoky, charred edge that melts in your mouth. Each taco is layered with just the right amount of onion, cilantro, and pineapple if you want to go traditional. You get that sweet-savory combo that just slaps. And they don’t skimp on portion size, either. I came in hungry and left full and happy.
What blew me away was the quality of the tortillas—fresh, soft, and slightly toasted. You can tell they’re made with care, not the factory-made stuff. Every bite felt like a love letter to authentic Mexican street food.
And don’t even get me started on the green salsa. It has a perfect kick—spicy, but not in a “ruin your mouth” way. Just enough to wake your taste buds up and make you want to keep going back for more. They also serve whole grilled jalapeños and radishes with their tacos, which adds a nice traditional touch and some heat if you’re brave.
I also tried a quesadilla on a whim, and it came out cheesy, gooey, and packed with meat—definitely not just a throwaway item on the menu. This spot is consistently good, whether you’re rolling in at noon or 2 AM (yep, it’s open 24/7). Whether you’re sobering up after a night out or just craving something real and satisfying, Taqueria Taxco is there for you.
Service is no-frills, but super quick and polite. You’re not coming here for white tablecloths—you’re coming here for honest, authentic food that tastes like someone’s abuela is in the back working magic. The staff knows what they’re doing and keeps things moving fast even when it gets busy.
The vibe inside is casual and humble, but always clean. No pretense, just good food. The place doesn’t take reservations, but it’s usually got space, and honestly? Even if there’s a wait, it’s worth it.
Prices are more than fair—most dishes are in the $10–$15 range, and considering the quality and portions, that’s a steal. It’s easily become one of my go-to taco spots in Texas.
If you’re craving late-night tacos, real Mexican flavor, and food that hits your soul, do yourself a favor and hit up Taqueria Taxco. I promise, it’ll earn a permanent spot in your food...
Read moreLaid back authentic Hispanic taqueria just opened up a location in The Colony Tx. It's open 24/7! Tortillas are made fresh in house and believe me you can instantly taste the difference. We came in to try them for lunch today and they did not disappoint. Everything we sampled was made fresh and super juciy and down home delicious. We started with chips and Guacamole and it was very good, enough to rival any high end restaurant in the area. My wife tried the Beef Fajitas tacos and was instantly in love with this place. (She said anytime I ask her where she wants to go to eat and she responds:" I don't know." I should remind her this place is here.) I guessing will be frequent flyers, Lol! I had the Chicken Fajitas tacos and a Beef Fajitas Gordita both where off the chain delicious, fresh Succulent grilled onion and fresh cilantro on the side. I seriously can't get enough of the homade Tortillas taste! They also serve a selection of Mexican Beers as well as the usual selection of soft drinks and tea. The Breakfast menu looks really good to I will drop in soon to explore those selections next. I can only dream about how good their Chorizo is likely to be after tasting the 2 meats that I tried for lunch. This place is great for a quick bite or to sit and relax for a spell. Food came faster then expected with how busy they are. Staff was polite and efficient as well as friendly and inviting. This is a real Mexican/Hispanic restaurant so be prepared that English here is purely secondary but if your like me and grew up here in Texas you should have no real trouble navigating the menu. Thier are pictures if nessaceray. Lol! Overall the place is new, clean, inviting and everything we tried was super yummy. We will be back soon. They also have a convenient drive through. Did I mention 24/7! Prices where super fair considering the high quality...
Read moreFood Review for Taqueria Taxco – Visit on July 19th
I was really looking forward to my visit to Taqueria Taxco, but unfortunately, this experience left a lot to be desired. The first thing I noticed was a major concern with food safety: the young lady taking orders was also cleaning tables and delivering food—all while wearing the same pair of gloves. She was touching dirty tables, handling money, and then bringing food to customers without changing gloves. That alone made me uncomfortable about the hygiene practices being followed.
I ordered the chicharrón tacos, which were very hard—completely different from the tender, flavorful ones I received on my first visit. The french fries were cold and tasted as if they had just been quickly reheated in the fryer and brought to the table without proper preparation.
What’s most disappointing is that there seemed to be plenty of staff working during my visit, yet no one stepped in to help or correct these issues. It made me question whether proper health and safety standards are being followed by the entire team.
Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won’t be returning. Cleanliness and food safety are non-negotiables for me, and I hope management takes a closer look at operations to ensure guests feel comfortable and safe when dining in. *Attached is a picture of the chicharrón taco meat that I...
