A Hidden Gem with a Master Behind the Bar
If you’re in Tucson and looking for a truly unforgettable cocktail experience, run—don’t walk—to Prohibición, the speakeasy tucked beneath Sonora Moonshine. But the real secret? Jeff, the bartender working Monday through Wednesday.
From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for something special. We were given a number to text, and Jeff personally came to escort us underground, setting the tone for the night. Once seated, he didn’t just take our drink orders—he interviewed us. Based on our liquor preferences, tasting profiles, and the kind of drink characteristics we enjoy, Jeff crafted completely custom cocktails tailored just for us.
Every single drink was a standout—elevated, complex, and unlike anything we’ve had before. Over the night, we enjoyed three different cocktails, each one better than the last, and all priced surprisingly well for the quality. Jeff uses rare and thoughtful ingredients you won’t find in most bars, even in bigger cities. One of our favorites was made with Strega, a saffron-based Italian liqueur that blew us away.
I’m from Los Angeles and visited with my son, who’s based in New York—we’re both spoiled when it comes to cocktails, and yet we were genuinely impressed.
If you’re into mixology, unique ingredients, or just want to feel like you’re part of something special, go see Jeff. He’s...
Read moreBelow is a message I sent to them on Instagram regarding my experience. This is before I knew I could leave a review on TikTok. This was back on June 22, and at the time, it informed me that they were able to read it, but they never responded to me. Attached to the screenshot of the actual review I submitted to them is a copy and paste of it. At the end of the day, I’m not a big fan of companies that don’t respond to their customers' good or bad comments. Due to the lack of response, it was our first and last time going.
Hello. I want to give my first impression of your establishment. Waited over 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge us on the patio (party of 2). Went to the bar to see if we needed to order drinks there then I was instructed they would bring menus to us and serve us. After that, the service was amazing, and the server took great care of us. Food was ok but not based on quality it was based on the cast iron dishes. Cast iron is hard to use in a restaurant setting. After each use, you need to wash it, dry it immediately to prevent rust, then re-season it, if you skip one of these steps you will taste the Cast iron in this dish. Unfortunately that happen to us. I only speak with over 20 years of experience in F&B. I shared this info privately and not on...
Read moreFirst time at Sonora Moonshine Co. Decided to give this place a try. Officially they open 5/5/24, but they are in soft opening mode. I believe by the time it’s officially open some of the newbie jitters will soon become a well oiled machine. We were immediately greeted and seated indoors. Because of a slight breeze and allergies, decided to forego outdoor seating. The atmosphere is nice on the eyes and tranquil. Service came and checked on us frequently as our shareable was prepared. The pork belly chicharon was prepared well along with some soft warm corn tortillas. The taste was spot on. It took a bit longer, but the quality was worth the wait. Our drinks also took a bit longer but again they both are worth the wait. I could tell staff was working hard to get that rhythm down. My only sting overall was cost and time it took to get our orders. 2 cocktails and a shareable was a bit on the high side. Otherwise, I’m looking forward to coming back after their...
