Misfit Kitchen in Tulsa, Oklahoma📍🍔 My search for the best hamburger in Oklahoma!! #foodreview #oklahomafoodie #bestburger
Jared GleatonJared Gleaton
Final Score: Final score: 47/60 Above Average Misfits Kitchen is a concept by Joe Garrett of Rustic Chophouse in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Nestled in Tulsa’s vibrant Arts District between two of the city’s premier steakhouses, Prhyme and Bull in the Alley, Misfits Kitchen offers a more casual and upbeat alternative, featuring what some might call upscale bar food with fun twists. Under the guidance of Chef Perez Rigo, Misfits Kitchen brings lively and imaginative fare to downtown Tulsa. The atmosphere at Misfits Kitchen is inviting, with a bar equipped with TVs and comfortable booths, all set against an industrial modern backdrop. The background noise is moderate, and the tables and booths are well spaced. Service for the evening was provided by Ali, who, along with the manager, collaborated on tonight's offerings. Ali delivered attentive and engaging service, even crafting a beautiful mocktail from scratch. Chef Perez also stopped by to discuss the menu and his inspirations for the flavor profiles. First up were some “foreplay” dishes, starting with Misfits wings served with carrots, celery, and ranch. The wings were flavored with spicy honey and cooked perfectly, featuring a crispy exterior that contrasted beautifully with the juicy interior. The sauce had initial notes of sweet honey, followed by middle notes of chicken and delicate end notes of garlic and spice. The heat intensified throughout the bite without being overpowering, making it a very good wing. Next was the “uvas con queso,” featuring prosciutto, drizzled berry sauce, spiced candied pecans, grapes, burrata, and naan. This dish was excellent, starting with sweet, tangy grape notes tempered by the creamy burrata and salty, earthy prosciutto. The combination of grape, prosciutto, and burrata was wonderfully conceptualized and executed. Each bite made you want to slide the baked naan back into the delicious concoction for more. The first entree was “everything butterfish,” featuring pan-seared cod, coconut cream rice, lobster stock, and a sun-dried tomato sauce. The fish was cooked well, and the rice had a beautiful texture, akin to a porridge with tiny grains in each spoonful. The creamy, slightly sweet coconut and rice flavor profile harmonized perfectly with the rich, delicate tomato sauce, full of spice and butter notes. While the cod was well-cooked, I wondered how sea bass or redfish with their sweet, nutty flavor profiles might have worked in this dish. The final entree was the “Skirrt Skirrt Steak,” featuring guajillo-marinated skirt steak, chimichurri sauce, orange candied carrots, and apricot Brussels sprouts. The skirt steak was cooked to a nice medium, with a beautiful flavor combination of rich beef, tangy herbaceous chimichurri, and endnotes of salty tangy brine. The orange candied carrots were slightly firm, with an initial sweet flavor giving way to a slightly bitter aftertaste—a unique and fun concept. The Brussels sprouts had a nice sear but were slightly soggy and on the sweet side. The dish felt like it was missing a component. Given the similar textures of the steak, carrot, and Brussels sprouts, perhaps a Heston Blumenthal-inspired crispy potato would have balanced the steak at a different level. For dessert, the Key lime cheesecake was presented. It had a creamy texture and a nice flavor profile, with tangy lime giving way to the beautiful cream cheese. It was a well-done cheesecake. Overall, Misfits Kitchen achieves exactly what it sets out to do: offer elevated bar food with unique and fun twists. The portion sizes relative to the price will appeal to many, as will the welcoming atmosphere. The range of offerings at Misfits shows a clear theme and style, reflecting Chef Perez’s well-executed flavor palate. I would definitely recommend giving Misfits Kitchen a try, as it provides a fun and lively dining experience perfectly located in Tulsa’s Arts District.

I recently visited Misfit Kitchen, a casual comfort food spot in downtown Tulsa. The menu caught my eye, and I decided to try their Misfit Nachos, a creative take on a classic bar food staple. The dish featured shredded rotisserie chicken, queso fresco, diced tomato, iceberg lettuce, pickled jalapeños, and an avocado lime crema layered over thick, crunchy tortilla chips. The nachos were presented inside a can, which the server lifted at the table, allowing the contents to spill theatrically onto the tray. It was definitely a fun and inventive presentation that added a little flair to the experience. Taste-wise, the nachos delivered solid flavors and textures. The chips held their crunch surprisingly well under the weight of the toppings, and the crema gave the dish a fresh, tangy finish. The portion size was huge—more than enough for one person, even with a big appetite like mine. At $17, it felt like fair value. The service was excellent. I arrived around 7 PM on a Wednesday and was seated immediately. The staff were friendly, quick, and attentive, and the food came out without delay. Where things fall a bit flat is the ambience. The vibe is very much sports bar, with loud 90s pop music (think Backstreet Boys on blast), which didn’t quite match the creative edge of the menu. Parking is also a hassle, as is typical for downtown Tulsa. Pros Inventive food presentation Flavorful, generously portioned dish Great service No wait time on a weeknight Cons Poor parking options Loud music Would I go back? Yes. The food and service make it worth revisiting—hopefully with earplugs or when the playlist changes.

Even though the food was amazing, I wont be returning back based of the service we recieved. We came in on a Sunday, which online says all day happy hour, so we decided to try it. Sat at the bar, at started browsing at the happy hour, for about 10 minutes. No waters no greet yet. Bartender finally comes up to us and only says “that’s our happy hour and we don’t have it on Sundays. But feel free to keep looking at it” Alright I said I thought I saw it on the website. She walks away and never asked me and my partner what we wanted to drink. 10 minutes go by the owner comes by and asks what we’d like to drink and gets it to us immediately and even mentions the happy hour and lets us know the website creator hasn’t changed it. Very friendly! We still ate there, was just appalled at how the bartender treated us. The owner continued to take care of us and grab our food orders. The bartender walks past us numerous times and says nothing to us, she made us feel like we were a burden and we’re not supposed to be there. It felt like my presence was bothering her. That was the only thing the bartender ever said to us until the end, when my partners playing with his card staring at our empty dirty plates for 10 minutes after we finished. She proceeded to say “I notice you playing with your card are you ready for the check?” No. Our plates are empty and drinks are empty we just want to stand around while you ignore us? Yes I'm ready for the check! Because the bartender was so rude I will not be back. I am a waitress myself so I was absolutely shocked. The owner treated us well, but it’s hard to tip well when the bartender getting the tip did none of the work other than say rude remarks to us. I can’t speak for the dining room but I would not sit at the bar unless you want to feel uncomfortable even being in...

Wife, adult son and myself stopped by for lunch on a Saturday. We opted to sit on the little patio they have. At first glance, the place was very neat and clean. We had been excited to go. Server was very pleasant in the beginning. I had the Hangover bowl, son had Skirt steak sandwich, wife had fish sandwich. To start, all our food was served room temp. My bowl had queso on it, so with it being served room temp, it had all lumped together in just sticky ball. Chicken was super dry and lacked any flavor. The skirt steak was so tuff he had to use a knife and chew it like jerky, and the sandwich was super strong fish. I get that, a risk you take for that. And still, room temp at best. The sides were all pretty awful to go with it. We sat waiting for our server to come back and check on us. She noticed we had not eaten our food and asked how was everything. I explained how we felt about the temperature and quality of what we were served. I did say, for the price I really excepted better from them. We had heard such great things. She listed to what I had to say, I was not rude by any means, and she walked away. We thought she was maybe getting the manager or maybe having the dishes remade. We hung out 15 min or so before she returned and asked if there was anything else she could get for us. At this point, now pretty grumpy, Yeah, some fresh edible food. Her response "don't sit on the patio if you want your food out before it gets cold". She handed us the bill and walked away. I ,ignorantly, paid my bill, left no tip, left the food sitting and we walked away. For us, we will not return, and advise no one to sit on the...
