Sara/h was my server. I came in on a Tuesday at 7pm. Great customer service and atmosphere. The pictures that aligned the walls are gorgeous. When they ask you do you want some fresh bread as you browse the menu, say ok and try it. It’s fresh in house hard dough bread, it’s not Jamaican style but it Dominica style. It’s super soft inside (a bit too doughy for my preference) but the perfect hardness on the outside. They make a salted butter that’s great along with the habanero sauce, that they also make, which tasted lovely with my crabback appetizer. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay (the only option by the glass by the way) and it was the Martin Ray brand, not bad but I won’t say it was the worst Chardonnay I’ve had. It paired well with my Crabback appetizer which was DELICIOUS with the celery and crab mix. I had no qualms with it. AT ALLLLLL. Now on to the entree, I ordered the pepper steak at first, but it was not medium as requested and it was bland, so I sent it back of course. The entree winner was the steak filet. The freaking yam/potato mash was THE BEST mashed potato I’ve ever had. That yam brings out a different flavor profile when cooked with the regular degular potato. I don’t eat mushrooms so I substituted the original side of veggies for the vegetable medley. The side of jerk shrimp was a great addition. I had this meal with the Martin Ray Cabernet which is actually better than the Martin Ray Chardonnay, both give me a FULL FEELING though. I didn’t have room for dessert but the Lava Cake called out to me! I enjoyed every bite and the ice cream was so delicious. I did try a cocktail just for you all and it was the restaurants take on a Moscow, which I absolutely loved! I also tried their house made rum punch, it was a sneaker lol it will sneak up on you but the flavors are blended so it doesn’t have a heavy rum taste. Overall the restaurant looks beautiful, the atmosphere is great, the customers seemed friendly, and the chef walked around and I was able to send my pepper steak back (it wasn’t my favorite, it was prepared medium well although I asked for medium and it lacked flavor in my opinion) in exchange for a filet MADE TO PERFECTION. That speaks to me, it’s important to me that my chef knows what his audience feels and thinks about his food. That alone makes me want to come back, plus that amazing appetizer! It’s a 3.5! The missing points are for food and location. Yes my meal was fixed but this is a review not a critique, I seek to understand and be apart of growth. So yeah, I’ll be back and I dropped some pictures below so you all...
Read moreThis is a tough review to do - and correctly annotate the experience. This restaurant is nicely located in the Center of the city - within walking distance of many hotels. It has a very nice decor, and overall it is a cozy place. The menu involves a lot of what looks like very exciting meals - we at least were tempted by many. Also the choices of beverages are many - wine, cocktails, beer, nonalcoholic etc. very nice. And this evening they had an attractive menu for two: share a starter, one entree each, share a desert. We picked that choice. And we were full after that. We selected the NOV specialty cocktail and a glass of Chardonnay. The specialty DRI no was awesome. So overall the setting is great this place. But… We arrived to the restaurant behind another couple. The hostess (Dressed in purple) asked us (both couples) to wait as she had to bring menus to a couple she just seated. She returned and started to seat the couple in front of us. At the same time a new couple arrived. At that time the male manager (Dressed in black) started stacking the menus for two couples. He then looks at my wife and me - and then turn his head and addresses the couple that arrived after us. The hostess is back at this time and tells the manager that my wife and I arrived first. He again looks at us and then says “The other couple has a reservation” and continues serving them. That couple looked also very uncomfortable of what was transpiring. I then mention, that my wife and I also have a reservation - but non the less, the other couple got seated by the manager…. And then we could get seated. That was such an awkward and uncomfortable experience that we almost left. And no excuses from anyone was given… But David, our server, was great and saved our night. So our low rating is a reflection of the poor management of the establishment getting us seated. Had that not happened it would be a higher rating. And due to what happened we are not returning to this restaurant - however great...
Read moreI'm sorry to say my experience wasn't a good experience. I arrived at Sisserou's and the receptionist said waiter directed to a booth to sit. Shortly after being seated. A manager comes and demands I move. I was asked to follow him to the front to confirm I had permission to sit there. Because he wanted to be sure I didn't just sit there without being assigned the table. I explained to him I was directed by receptionist and waiter. The waiter stood there and said I assigned the table by receptionist, waiter. But the manager didn't listen to me he began picking up the silver ware from the table, asked me to get up and follow him to the front to confirm it with the receptionist. At this point my wife came to join me and saw the managers aggressive behavior, rude manner in which handled the situation. My wife decided she didn't wish to patronize your restaurant. As we're leaving the manager asked the receptionist and waiter if table was assigned to me. Both respond to the manager saying yes I was assigned to the table. It was too late to make me as a customer feel good to eat in your restaurant. Manager was loud an rude and I was disrespected, people began to stare. I feel it simply because I was a person of color. I don't think he would have asked white American to get up and follow him to the front to confirm you were seated at a table assigned to them. I think the manager needs training dealing with people of color. He had opportunity to save 2 customer's by simply going and confirm with the receptionist and waiter before approaching the customer, destroying a good evening. We drove far just to treated with disrespect, biase way. When Sisserou's first open and my spouse were there sang the praises of the food and service then. Years have passed and things are not the same. No worries we won't return...
