I have a food allergy to mushrooms. I know that is a rare allergy but in the past it was never a problem. This night my wife and I had plans fot the evening and thought Fuji would be reasonably quick compared to other options. We ordered our food and made the server very clear about the food allergy. The food arrived full of mushrooms. He didn't bring my soup or my wifes salid, and the soup was full of mushrooms. We called the server back and he took the food back to the kitchen. When he brought the food back it was still full of mushrooms where I guess they tired to pick out the mushrooms. He also brought another cup of soup full of mushrooms. I called the manager over and he took my food back to the kitchen and said it was remade, but that meant my wife and I couldn't share food between us. The other plans for the evening were ruined because of the time wasted trying to get our food correct and I was afraid to really eat my food because I didn't feel like the staff was taking food allergies seriously. Then when the check came it was for full price. Afterwards I had symptoms typical to a mild reaction to mushrooms. I guess I should report it to the health department but instead I will just go elsewhere in the future. Very bad situation that wasn't handled respectfully. They also raised their prices significantly which I understand but not if they are offering service that puts a person's health at risk by not following food...
Read moreI'll be honest ...we use to love this restaurant. The last two times, not so much. After one bad service we decided to give it another go. My nine year old daughter saved up her money to take me there for my birthday. We arrived at a couple minutes to eight. They left us sitting for 15 minutes before taking the drink order, I guess hoping more showed up at the hibachi table. After 25 minutes we had our drinks, placed our orders, and the chef started. He was rude and seemed upset, I'm guessing because there was only 2 at the table. The only trick was the onion volcano. No jokes, tossing food in your mouth, no flipping utensils. ..nothing not even a happy birthday and the food was just ok. I felt mostly sorry for my daughter that paid for this. I thought maybe feeding the fish would cheer her up (they usually let the kids do that and I tip the hostess) they told her the fish had are enough that day. Which might be true. How about saying ..."I'm sorry the fish have ate a lot today let me know next time your here and you can feed them". A little kindness goes a long way. My suggestion if your looking for a Hibachi style restaurant go to Hibachi Master on Beechmont Avenue. It is not as decorative but the food is better and the service is...
Read moreIt seems that all my reviews after the COVID restrictions have been lifted have a disturbing trend: poor or diminished service. I hope this does not continue. Fuji Steakhouse is a serviceable hibachi. After all the tired dad jokes and trite presentations from bored hibachi cooks, it all comes down to the quality of the food. It's good here. You won't leave hungry with the generous portions, and it's not really the fault of the chef that the whole experience has become mundane. That being said, no one should ever have to sit at a restaurant table and wonder if they will ever get something to drink or have their order taken. I try to understand that all service industries are short staffed right now. But it seemed like the server at our grill was slow even for those conditions. Get the fundamentals right out there, gang. Be thankful that anyone at all is walking through your doors right now after the year we've all had. That means you survived the pandemic, and that you still have something people want. Make it worth our while and our hard...
