Hands down, worst dining experience I’ve ever had in my life. It’s mind boggling how bad of service I received without any compensation, or an apology! I don’t like to give anyone in the food industry a hard time; in fact, this is the first time I have left a review. It was truly that bad. In the hour and a half we spent waiting for our meal, we were only brought one drink. After finishing our first drink, we waited 30 minutes without being seen by our server. We had to flag her down for a second round. We’d also already been waiting for our food, which was an appetizer and a burger. Simple. Our server told me that she saw my appetizer was ready and that the burger should be right up. You’d think that would do it. No. The tables around us had walked in roughly 30 minutes after us and were all served both drinks and their meals. We waited another 30 minutes after asking for a second drink and for a status on our food, and even the appetizer that I told was ready 30 minutes prior wasn’t brought to me. I asked for our things to be boxed up, because I’d lost faith in enjoying my meal there. She agreed to, and in the most disrespectful way of “bettering” the situation, she told me that she had removed the second round from our tab. You know, the ones we were never served. She said that she wasn’t sure why the bar didn’t make our drinks. “Make,” yet we ordered beer. Bottled beer. A corona, that should have easily been brought to us the first time asking. On top of it all, it is 18% added gratuity, so I had to pay for the worst service I’ve ever gotten AND tip the worst server I have ever had. You come to a restaurant directly off of the beach to have a convenient, enjoyable meal on vacation. This place is far from convenient or...
Read moreStayed at the Surfbreaker hotel and decided to visit the attached restaurant for convenience. We were a party of 4, 2 adults and 2 teens, seated quickly and at our preferred table. Drink orders took awhile, the Shirley temple my daughter ordered didn’t have any cherries in it. I ordered the she-crab soup, it was delicious! I also ordered the seafood platter (broiled), this includes Atlantic cod, shrimp, 1 crab cake and 2 sides. They said their steamer was down so no vegetables were available and they were out of coleslaw, this left only French fries or sweet potato fries as side options without adding $2 for a side from their “specialty sides” menu. My Atlantic cod was not edible, it was so incredibly dry and had no seasoning whatsoever. The shrimp was also overcooked, dry and chewy. The crab cake was good, but I expected better considering the location. My husband ordered the crab cake platter (2 crab cakes) fried, he didn’t have any complaints. My daughter ordered the pesto pasta with chicken, it was a large portion and she said it was good. My son ordered a side Mac n cheese, he was swimming so ate it later and enjoyed it. We all had water, my husband had 1 beer and my daughter the 1 Shirley temple, our bill was $145 - they add an 18% gratuity regardless of how many people are in your party. There is also a disclaimer on their menu that they will not remove items from the bill that were prepared correctly. I was only able to eat the 1 crab cake from my $30 seafoood platter. Sadly, about 1 1/2 hours later I also got sick at the hotel. I cannot recommend Calypso Bar & Grill based on my experience. They...

I normally don’t leave reviews, but my recent experiences with Calypso Bar & Grill were so frustrating and shady that I feel obligated to warn others.
I called in to place a simple takeout order: one cheeseburger and one order of chicken nuggets for my kids. Both items were $7 each, so my total should’ve been $14 plus tax, right? Instead, I was told the total was $18.50. I gave $20 cash and only got $1 back. I left the dollar as a tip, even though I was already suspicious. When I got the food, the burger was dry and overcooked, and the nuggets were fried so hard they were barely edible. Not worth the money at all.
Here’s where it gets worse. The very next day, I called in to order the exact same thing at the same time. This time, I was told I had to pay over the phone before they’d even cook the food. Okay, fine. But then I was charged $15.61. Wait, what?! So yesterday it was $18.50 and today it’s $15.61 — for the exact same items?
Now I’m seriously wondering: was I scammed the first time? Did someone just pocket the extra money? Why was I told to pay over the phone today, but not yesterday? Something about this feels really dishonest, and frankly, I feel completely taken advantage of.
I gave this place a second chance, and I regret it. Whether it’s disorganized pricing or employees scheming on customers, it’s unacceptable. I will never return to Calypso Bar & Grill, and I strongly urge others to check their receipts and question the charges — or better yet, just go...
