We called in to make a reservation for a doggie dinner. I stood by the host stand for about 5 minutes only to have the servers continue to walk by and ignore me. Then I was told we were supposed to seat ourselves? We then sat ourselves outside and were greeted by our waiter within a few minutes. We ordered the drinks, which took a longer than average amount of time to come out. We were ready to order our meal about 5 minutes into being seated, but the waiter didn't come back around to take our order untill nearly 30 minutes later! We ordered the steak (medium-well, which came out practically over well done) and the mango salmon, all of which we waited on for about another 45 minutes AFTER waiting 30 minutes to have our order taken..
Mind you, they close at 9 pm. We arrived shortly after 7:30 pm. By the time our food arrived, it was less than 15 minutes till close. The salmon seemed like a smaller portion than I would have expected for the price, but it definitely was delicious. The steak, on the other hand, was far too overcooked and dry. Very disappointing for the price, but hey, it's VA Beach...
The only reason we came to this location was for the dog friendly atmosphere and most of all, the doggie dinner options! No complaints at all from our 4 legged friend, as his entire meal was gone before I got into the first bite of my own meal. He could not have been happier!
Towards the end of our meal, the owner of the location actually passed by and asked how everything was going. We're not usually ones to complain, so I couldn't really form my disappointment into the right words at the moment, but he could tell we were somewhat upset with our experience and offered us a small discount. He went on to explain how their head chef had actually broken his ankle and was unable to come to work, therefore they were extremely busy with the workload at hand. I understand this well, becuase I also work in foodservice, and have dealt with similar days.. His hospitality does make me want to give this location another try, but I would only want to do so if we have our dog with us again next time, otherwise I'd probably just try another new place we havnt...
Read moreWent to this restaurant for the very first time last night. Let me begin with there were NO seated customers at the dining tables which was a plus. The restaurant was not crowded AT ALL. My party was a total of 6 adults. The waitress comes over looking somewhat disturbed( maybe because it was 9pm and they close at 10pm) but proceeded to take our orders. She got to me, I ordered rhe appetizer shrimp and the shrimp and scallops(she asked if i wanted the linguine with it and i replied with yes) with a side salad for my entree. Everyone else at the table placed their orders. Food started arriving, everyone except me got their meals and I was sitting their waiting and waiting and waiting..... No entree.....nor did she EVER come back and ask our table how our food was while they were eating because had she done that she would've maybe realized that I WASNT eating(smh).... she finally comes to the table and I say "is my entree coming?" She gives me this obnoxious stare like I'm bothering her and says " Oh, I forgot to put it in" and just looks at me....then says " well, do you want it now?" It took everything in me not to set it off and react...I took a deep breath and said " No, I don't) she says ok and walks off still no apology nothing....comes back to bring the checks divided into 3 sets. We notice that gratuity is already included...Ummm no not today you never served me my order and didnât even seem to care that you didn't. I asked for the manager who in turn reversed the gratuity but didn't seem to care much either that his only server at their ONLY table in the restaurant was mistreated. I'm definitely not used to the lack luster attitudes of this staff so we won't be back and based on their non caring attitudes I'm sure they don't care however I'm sharing this so that maybe it will help someone else when they are trying to decide on a place to eat dinner where they will actually receive caring service. To me, it's not here.
Food: appetizer shrimp was great, had to ask for dressing with my salad and you know the story on the rest of my...
Read moreI recently dined at Croc's with three other family members. Two of our four meals were good, one was okay and one (mine) was very disappointing. First, the good. My son chose crab cakes which were quite large and very tasty. His girlfriend ordered the steak which was also very good. However, my husband's tuna was ordered medium rare but served medium. He decided not to send it back to the kitchen and, overall, enjoyed the dish. I decided to order Croc's signature dish which is their Pork Chili Verde served over stone ground grits. This is one of the worst dishes I've ever been served in a restaurant. There was very little pork in it, maybe three tiny pieces. The sauce was unpleasant, and the dish has absolutely no visual appeal. My husband commented that it looked like something he would have been served on a ship when he was in the Navy. On top of that, our water glasses were dirty (one had bright red lipstick on it) and our wine glasses were covered in water spots. Frankly, the only bright spot of the meal was the wine and the service. Croc's does have a interesting and substantial wine list and our server was pleasant - although she did not seem particularly concerned about our dirty glassware. All in all, Croc's was a disappointment and we have no intention...
