STAY AWAY! THIS IS NOT INDIAN FOOD! I was there with 13 more people and the restaurant had about 5 guests already. To which the guy told us to order everything at once as they are ‘BUSY’; we were the reason of them being busy! Anyway, We ordered drinks (kingfisher beer to be precise) and were served with below room temperature plus flat beer which was just the beginning of awful experiences. Later we placed an order and just to make it convenient for the server we noted it on a paper for him to avoid any confusion since we were a big group and orders can be messy. Still our rude and impractical server Mr. Farooq managed to screw the order and billed incorrectly.. Here are some dishes that you should stay away from - 1. Chicken Biryani - Literally was 6-7 tablespoons of rice with masala chicken. 2. Butter chicken - Only color and would recommend it in lieu of dessert. 3. Any Bread - we order naan, garlic naan, laccha paratha and all of it was burnt on one side and was undercooked on the other (this was a miracle itself) Finally when we tried to convince Mr. Farooq to replace the burnt breads then he judged us and finally told us that ‘oh! You guys are from India that’s why you are acting like this’ I would highly recommend you to stay away from this place as it is filled with tasteless food and arrogant server.

Let me start by saying you do not judge a book by its cover... If we read the reviews, we might have skipped this restaurant. However, we are glad that we did not read the negative reviews... We went twice over the weekend and we had nothing but amazing service, classy people and a wonderful tasting food... We ordered the beef biryani and chicken masala... Both were hot and fresh and tasted amazing. It's too bad the restaurant looked light in traffic... I don't know if they can survive with the light traffic, however some of the negative reviews are uncalled for... The decor is very nice and the location is convenient as it's away from the traffic.... The price is extremely reasonable.... The beef biryani was $17 and the ticky masala was about $16 or so... We both thought the portions were very adequate and we actually ended up taking some home.... The nan was warm to hot and very fresh... We ate the beef samosa and it was slightly dry but overall very good. My wife and I have been around the world and we have to travel to multiple continents and I can tell you the food was very good. We will absolutely go back there again without any doubt.... I am not saying it's the only restaurant that we will go back to. However it is a five-star restaurant.

The Taj of India in Georgetown is a complete misrepresentation of Indian cuisine and hospitality. It doesn’t even come close to serving genuine Indian food—the quality is dismal, with absolutely no understanding of balance in salt, spice, or ingredients. This isn’t just a poor attempt at Indian food—it’s an insult to it. Worse still is the attitude. On a chilly evening, we stopped by for something simple: masala chai. Instead of welcoming us, the staff refused to serve tea unless we ordered starters—each person. That’s right, three people, three mandatory starters just to get a cup of tea. It was deeply embarrassing, especially as an Indian bringing international friends to experience something from home. We complied and ordered samosas, veg pakoras, and chicken pakoras. By the time we finished the tea—which tasted like oversweetened, salty water—the starters still hadn’t arrived. When they finally did, they were stale, smelled off, and tasted even worse. This place is a disgrace. Not only are they ruining the name Taj, but also doing a disservice to India’s rich culinary heritage. Absolutely never again.

I usually do not write many reviews on restaurants, however, this time I felt compelled to share my experience.

I went in the middle of the day, around 4 pm and the restaurant was relatively quiet, about 3-4 other customers. However, from the moment I walked in, I was treated as if I was a HUGE inconvenience to the restaurant. The waiter just seem so apathetic and indifferent to me. He did not greet me, was always trying to hurry me, and really didn't listen to anything I was saying. He was more interested in watching a sports game by the bar.

I ordered a chicken tikka masala and two naan. However, what I ordered was definitely not chicken tikka masala. It was more akin to a chicken korma. The first piece of chicken I had was raw and rubbery. The rest of the chicken was dry and tasteless and I suspect they have a common batch of old chicken (probably from a lunch buffet) and they just dump it into a generic sauce. I brought it to the attention of my waiter about my raw chicken, and he could not give an once of care. I told him that the kitchen should be careful as people can get sick from undercooked chicken. His response was non-existent, didn't apologize and made no effort to convey my concerns to the kitchen. He just handed me my bill and sent me on my way.

Unfortunately, like many other Indian restaurants they have a small selection of sauces that are slightly modified with different ingredients and proteins to create a multitude of dishes. When you see an Indian or any other restaurant with 40+ option on the menu, I would be VERY careful about the quality of food you are getting as there is not way that the dishes are being prepared from scratch.

I also agree with a previous review's experience about how ethic minority customers are completely ignored and left aside and other customers were given a much more attentive service. I always find it ironic when you are being discriminated by your own ethic group.

To sum up, the food was some of the worst Indian food I have ever had, almost to the point that it is unsafe to be consuming and the customer service is non-existent. I will never be returning to...

!! COME HERE IF YOU WANT TO GET SERVED A PLATE FULL OF ARROGANCE INSTEAD OF GOOD FOOD !!

This was an awful experience amongst all the wonderful places we visited in D.C.

Lack of customer service attitude. The waiter was too arrogant to speak with a customer and felt we are being judged just because we are Indians.

Every single person who comes in search for good food would complain if the restaurant charge $$ with a mandatory gratuity on the bill which we would have argued against for serving such BLAND and UNPALATABLE food but we rushed out as soon as we can to get good food.

As a customer, asking for better service and good quality of food does not justify the comment waiter passes on our NATIONALITY, (stating you are Indian’s that’s why you are like this.)

THIS STATEMENT MADE ME SO DISTURBED THAT I'd HAVE COMPLAINED THEM TO THE D.C OFFICE OF HUMAN RIGHTS.

Apart from all this attitude thing, this restaurant had strange rules for the customers who do not have prior booking, according to their rule, the order will not be placed again if the restaurant is busy. ( FYI - I can count the number of people on the fingers of one hand. So, imagine how busy this restaurant will be! :/ )

After such stressful week It was the weekend, and we were in very high spirits to enjoy the night in DC with friends, but because of waiter’s comments on our nationality along with food, our mood was ruined on the very 1st day of our trip.

I would go so far as to say it’s an insult to an Indian cuisine. Do not waste money at...

I went there with a friend around 11:30 am on a Saturday for lunch. The food here was alright for me. My friend did not like it. In my friend's opinion, if you claim a cuisine to your restaurant name ( Indian, in this case), then you should be true to the basic standards of the cuisine and not serve some watered down rush job. When we entered the restaurant, the girl at the reception made us feel, as if we are not welcome there. There was no other customer in the restaurant. We asked how much time would it take to get food (as we were too hungry to wait for long), she did not respond and asked us to sit there on the two persons table and not at four person table. Then she went back. When she came to take order, she seem to not want to answer any of our questions. We gave order of a mix veg and 2 rotis. She took the order and went back. She did not come back for 20 minutes, but we heard her giggling with her coworker. My friend asked her if she can tell us how much time will it take? She said the Tandoor is not hot so it will take 10-20 minutes. We said we must leave then, then she went to the kitchen to ask the chef. Then one guy appeared with food in next 2 minutes. What was surprising was her indifferent attitude to any customer in the premises. If she owns this place then she should find some other business to do since she is clearly not interested in this one and if she's an employee, then, this is one employee, I would never hire. A clear no return...
