Okay, so I hate to leave this review because we did enjoy 75% of our experience at Buffalo Bar starting with the location, greeting, wait time, and staff. The place was super dog friendly with a giant patio and staff that could not stop fawning over our sassy, begging Akita. We were seated at a table right by the patio bar which was great for fast beverage service. The bartender was slammed but went out of his way to grab a large dog bowl and fill it with ice water for the pup. Our server was great: funny, explained specials, suggested beers and food; she was a pro! The restaurant was packed but she made sure to come around and let us know that we were not forgotten and brought out appetizers on the house for the delay in our food. When our food arrived I was more than happy with my salmon and mashed potatoes and the boyfriend was enjoying his burger until we caught something that just didn't sit well in or out of COVID-19 times... as I said we were seated right by the bar and at the station was a huge tub of ice for beverages and such, we watched the bartender take used cups from tables to refresh drinks and dipped those cups into the large tub of ice. He did it with our cups as well as cups from two other tables. COVID or not I am a germaphobe from way back and I was ready to throw up, scream, and douse myself in a gallon of rubbing alcohol. This could have been purely an accident during a busy rush but that does not excuse. It violates every food handlers safety rule and the rule of human cleanliness. We stopped eating, drinking, and all. Got our check and got out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. I wanted to report the guy to every manager and staffer but I was so disgusted I just wanted to get out of the place. I don't want this place penalized for the oversight of one person because everything else (that we could see anyway) was good.

I was so excited to come back here after our visit in Sept 2021, but sadly completely different experience this time. While they seated us quickly, they were not prepared to serve us well. The server was rushed, and we really only saw them 4 times - drink order, food order, drop off check, and drop off receipt. No refills. No check-in, etc. Also, while they don’t advertise having gluten-free options, the last time we dined here the server was so nice and helped accommodate my dietary restrictions. This time they legit told me everything has possibility of gluten, they don’t recommend eating anything and there was nothing they could do. Super awkward because we came there with local friends because our experience in 2021 was so great. So I ordered a burger without a bun and it was super rare and the fries were very likely beer battered. Definitely not something I could eat. Very disappointing meal. My husband and friends with us don’t have dietary restrictions and there meals were just okay. So Yellowstone’s busy season definitely affected everything. Also, while it is a bar restaurant so you may assume, I definitely do not recommend bringing kids. No seats, kid menu options, etc are available. So yeah, while it can be a good restaurant, I would not recommend during busy season in West Yellowstone. Also there is a 3% added fee if you use a credit card. So bring cash or expect that. Also anything beyond like burgers/sandwiches are going to be $20-$40. *Photos from 2021 because this time was not a great experience I didn’t even want to take pictures.

My wife and I stayed in West Yellowstone for 5 nights. We were recommended to go to the Buffalo Bar before we even arrived. The first night we had an amazing meal. We started with two local drinks, my wife had a cocktail, I went with a local beer. We got the Buffalo chili con queso as our appetizer. For meals, she got the country fried Buffalo steak and I got the Jam Burger with a Buffalo patty. The fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly! The burger was cooked to perfection. The country fried steak was delicious and had a hearty serving of gravy. The place was decorated with tons of wildlife. We waited for approximately 40 minutes the first night which is quite common. The second night had a little shorter of a wait. But we were excited because of how great the food was the first night. When we got to our table we decided to switch up our food order. My wife got the Jam Burger with a Buffalo patty and I got the Buffalo Meatloaf. The meatloaf was very good! However, it appeared my wife’s burger was overcooked, the aioli appeared to be different than the one I got the night before, the fries were hardly seasoned. Our waitress never came back to ask how anything was until she brought the check. As we looked around, it appeared that we did not recognize any of the waitresses or waiters from the night before. Overall, this place is good and definitely worth a visit but it was inconsistent for the two nights we ate there. As one of the waitresses told us “it’s hard to find good food in West!”

EDIT ON JAN. 10, 2025. Amanda, I'm sure you knew I was going to update this review after we just talked today. It's okay if I leave an honest review about a negative experience that I had. To tell me you're not going to serve me anymore because I wrote an honest review, is a bit childish in my opinion but I will respect your choice. You could have taken the review and looked at it in the spirit of improvement. I gave you the time, I gave you the day, I told you to look at the camera and see how many times I had to talk to staff and how long it took me to get my complete order. Never should I have to ask multiple people and never should it take about 15 minutes in total. But at the end of the day...your guests are allowed to speak truthfully about the experiences that they've had at this place. If this the type of maturity you guys want to come from.... to not serve to the people that are writing an honest review because it didn't show you in a good light, I can respect your choice and will not show up in there again but please don't insult me by trying to put the blame on me. And when I say that it's because your reason was because I wrote negative reviews. I had two negative experiences that management should really look at. Never should anybody be rude and never should it take me 15 minutes to get my full order. This is clearly the type of service that you guys are okay with and I'm not here to change your mind. I'm happy to put my money towards elsewhere but please don't insult me by trying to put the blame on me BECAUSE I WEOTE AN HONEST REVIEW. If I had been rude or had thrown things or something like that then I could understand why you wouldn't want to serve me. This is beyond childish.

Dear manager or owner, you really need to hire better staff. There should never be a time I have to ask all three people on a slow night for things regarding my meal. At this point it had to be purposely ignoring my request because I went to the end of the bar for two people were just standing talking to each other and as soon as I got there they both left. You have very rude people who work at the bar tonight. It's a Tuesday before trivia night and it was pretty slow. I've been there when it's been on a weekend and your other bartenders was fantastic. . Your staff's laziness shouldn't be why my...

the service is so bad i decided it was time to leave my first yelp review. my family and i walk into the place and immediately i am hit with an unpleasant odor. that’s the first strike, but sometimes you have to take risks. they took our name down and told us 25 minutes. we said ok and waited and 40 minutes goes by. we get a notification that we were taken off the waitlist so we go back to the hostess that is almost never at her little table. we had to wait and she wasn’t even bringing another group back. more groups around us were also pissed because they’ve been waiting with no text. we told her we’ve been waiting and she’s like oh yeah your table has been ready for awhile. ???? we never received a text so idk how they expected us to magically know that. she didn’t even apologize. we are a party of 5 mind you, and she brings us to a table seated for 12 people🤨. weird. our waitress comes to the table and she is not pleasant either. no smile. no manners. do these people even want a tip???? i suppose not. we ordered our drinks and food. it was fine. $16 for two tacos tho are you smoking dope? anyway my fault that i ordered that if i didnt want to pay that. the waitress didn’t come back to ask us how we were doing or how the food was. she just came to ask us for refill and that’s all. i am now waiting for the bill after we’ve finished eating for 10 min. there’s a singular nice older lady that came to pick up our dishes and told us our waitress will be over soon with a bill. keep that lady and fire the rest. honestly the restaurant is lucky my dad paid bc if it was me the tip would be 10% (bc im nice) or less than that.

may i recommend a place called hanks instead. our server was friendly and the host wasn’t rude. the food was also much better and the...
