By far one of my best experiences. After retiring, my sister and I picked up our cameras again and started shooting. We have been coming to Yellowstone or Grand Tetons every year since retirement. This year we decided to rent a snow coach and visit the interior Yellowstone and after much research settled on Yellowstone Expeditions. Not only did they exceed our expectations we learned more about photography, ecosystems, history, and the stories were captivating and educational. My sister, who had a confidence killer year last year to the point she sat her camera down and barely touched it. I litterally begged her to go one more time with me and promised this is the last time. Now is now revived and enthused about photography again, she is picking up her camera more, and we are already planning and saving to go on multiple trips next year. It was so good we want to bring our families and grandchildren to see and learn from one of the most incredible young ladies I have met, Nadia. The whole team at Yellowstone Expeditions are amazing. We saw other snow coaches and their guides were sitting in the vans while their people explored on their own. Not ours. She got out, walked with us, showed us and educated us on the ecology and history of Yellowstone and because she is also a Wildlife Biologists, I was soaking up the knowledge she shared. It was magical, educational, fun, and we didn't want it to end. We gained a dear friend in our lives and will return many times more. Hands down best trip ever and I can't wait...
Read moreWe recently returned from 4 days at the Yellowstone Expeditions yurt camp. Our time there was a wonderful, magical experience. Imagine all the wonders of Yellowstone National Park without the 4.5 million people who visit the Park in an average year. We saw amazing wildlife and thermal features, the thermal features being especially fantastic in the winter. The Park Service allows snowmobiles in parts of the Park, but the yurt camp is located away from the roads where the snowmobiles are permitted, so the yurt camp is removed from the noise and traffic of motorized vehicles. On most days, our small groups were breaking trails through deep, fresh snow through beautiful forests and meadows.
The staff at the camp are competent, friendly, and great companions while cross-country skiing in remote areas. The accommodations at the camp were very nice. Our sleeping quarters, which are called “yurtlets” by the staff, were comfortable and warmed by propane heaters. The meals served at the camp were delicious and would not have been out of place in a nice restaurant.
On a personal note, I took a bad fall on our last day of skiing, and I couldn’t put weight on one of my legs. The staff rallied around me and assisted me in getting to a snow-covered road, where we were met by a tracked vehicle owned by Yellowstone Expeditions. I can’t say enough about their professionalism and competence.
If you are thinking about going to the Yellowstone Expeditions yurt camp, my advice is to stop thinking about it...
Read moreYellowstone in winter is a magical place. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better The Yurt camp added to the magic. Comfortable winter camping with the incredibly competent, energetic, magic making, fun women (Nadia - leader and encyclopedia extraordinaire, Sage aka Artemesia the artist, Julie with the earrings and Reesa - the ice cream queen) who drove, cooked and cared for us the 3 nights and 4 days we were there. Each of them was knowlegeable of the best places to go for the weather and conditions. The food was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned, lovely variety, great DIY lunches with fresh ingredients and about a dozen healthy snacks and fruit to keep your energy up during the day. The coaches were comfortable and roomy. The Yurts were cozy and had lots of hooks and even a clothes line if you needed it. Lots of little details made our stay at the camp very comfortable. For example, we all were given Chamber Jars so we didn't have to venture out in the frozen night should nature call! We had some fun after dinner with others in the camp recalling our "thorns" (the worst part of our day), our "roses" (the best part of our day), and our "rose buds" (what we were looking forward to the next day). And I should mention the home made - yes, it was hand cranked! - ice cream. Thank you Yellowstone Expeditions and David Kingman and Jennifer Renwick (our photography leaders) for a memory...
