In all my years, I have never seen a restaurant that makes less sense than this one. It clearly is a money grab by the parent company because there is no regard for the menu or dining experience. We walked in and waited in line for a while. The man at the register had to ring up and seat the people, go bus tables, and sell wine and beer to guest wanting it at random times. We paid in credit card and he handed back the slip. I asked about tipping and he said they weren't "set up for that". Apparently, they can't figure out how to track who which server waited on which table. Seriously? There are thousands of other restaurants that can. This indicates that they don't care if their servers get tipped. So, take cash for the tip if you must eat there. The food is all premade, packaged, and not high quality. And, to get the food on your plate is challenging as well. It is nearly impossible (with normal length arms) to reach the items at the back of the salad bar without putting your cheek on the glass. I watched repeatedly as people had to do this. The irony that a barrier for sanitation purposes is positioned in a way that multiple people touch the same surface with their face is not lost. At $24 per person, one can easily expect more. This place is highly disappointing unless you are a fan of cafeteria food. Fred Harvey would be mortified to have his name associated with this restaurant. The parent company, Xanterra (per Google), has owned this since 1968 and still hasn't figured it out. My suggestion- Do better or lease the restaurant out to a company who can figure it out. Pro tip- If you have to eat there because it is part of your package, ask for hot sauce.

DELICIOUS! Says "Fred Harvey House" (not grand depot Cafe) Right across from Grand Canyon railway And Hotel. Open for Breakfast Buffet And Dinner Buffet (to accommodate the train riders) Dinner was about $25/person. All you can eat buffet. Alcoholic drinks must be purchased at time of entry (you pay before you eat). INCLUDED for DINNER: All non alcoholic drinks Soups/breads/rolls Very large salad bar Carving station (delicious roast and jus) and other meats (ex pork chops, chicken cordon Bleu etc) Custom pasta station All kinds of sides (baked potato bar/all kinds of veggies/rice/Mac n cheese etc) And dessert brought to your table (we had a choice of four kinds of cake/pie) Service was fast and friendly (ask for extra napkins when your server comes with your drink order) The buffet was clean And fresh and a very good value Oh and a model train circles the room up by the ceiling!

I ate Thanksgiving Day dinner 2023 at The Fred Harvey Restaurant and found it to be wonderful. The restaurant is a buffet which served a truly delicious and appealing dinner. I paid $29.97 for the Thanksgiving Day meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. The meal included a soup and salad bar, main entrée bar, your choice of drink. Several different desserts were offered from a stand-alone menu, yet included in the meal price. I found the meat selection (turkey, pork chops, and sliced beef to be tender, moist, and not overcooked. To top off my delicious meal was what they named a “warm apple-caramel blossom.” It tasted so superb and aesthetically pleasing when my server brought it to me. The hostess and wait staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, I consider this Thanksgiving Day buffet truly a destination eatery driving all the way from Phoenix or Albuquerque.

The whole experience was so disappointing. I understand most places are having trouble keeping staff right now so I already give lots of leeway for slower service but this was just crazy.

We checked in with the host & was informed there would likely be a wait of approx. one hour for a table in the cafe or 45 min. in the lounge, so we opted to eat in the lounge giving us a shorter wait time. After an hour with no notification we wandered back in to wait at the host station. After waiting for an additional 15 minutes we watched as 3 tables left the lounge with no one going in. I wandered into the lounge and was shocked to see 7 empty tables with only 1 table seated and eating. The whole lounge only had a total of 8 tables and it was nearly empty! I asked the host if we could at least go in to have a drink while we were waiting and he said that wasn’t possible. After the host noticed me coming out of the lounge he went in himself and I watched as he cleaned 2 of the already tables(the other 5 were already clean) and called us in to dine (finally!).

We were given one menu and over the next 10 minutes a waitress walked by 3 times without acknowledging us at all! When she finally stopped to take our order 2 drinks & 2 burgers she came back to apologize that our drinks would take a while since there were no clean glasses available. It wasn’t even busy! The place was almost empty! She finally brought my drink with our burgers however she never brought my husbands drink. (A glass of wine). After delivering our burgers I saw his wine sitting up at the bar for awhile & finally went to get it myself.

I can’t think of any establishment that would ever think this is good customer service & I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Stay away! You’ll only be...

The waitress did her job well, ensuring our glasses of unsweetened tea and soda were refilled. We enjoyed the live music during dinner as it made a pleasant but not overly loud background. After hearing from several people that the buffet was good we decided to stop for dinner after the long day up to the Grand Canyon. The buffet had few choices, none of which were on the tabletop advertisement, the advertisement assured me we would have multiple choices of vegetables including asparagus and cauliflower cooked in such a way as to make both vegetables sound delightful, imagine my surprise when I found baby carrots (similar to what you might see at Golden Corral). The salad bar was basic, but fresh with few options for salad dressing, not even basic thousand island. The beef entree was tasty, but the carver was giving out minute portions and I had to ask if they had an jus to go with it. The highlight of the meal was the pasta bar, I could definitely understand why the young lady working the station was kept busy, multiple choices of pasta, two different sauces and then multiple choices of things to add to it, it was fresh and tasty, thus the 2 stars and not less. The dessert was not on the buffet, your server gave you the choices and brought it to your table. My husband had their apple pie (really an apple tart, I’ve bought from Aldi’s several times, frozen and reheated in the oven or microwave), I had cheesecake which was served with “raspberry sauce”, this supposedly upscale buffet should have had fresh raspberry sauce, not the chemically tasting red syrup placed on this offering. Some people have this buffet included with their hotel fee, if you are having to pay the $27+. Per person, save your money and...

Spend the money at one of the numerous, other, local restaurants that is 5 minutes walking distance away in "downtown" Williams.

This is a very convenient location to dine if you are staying at the Railway Hotel.

Our meals at Fred Harvey Restaurant were part of a train ride and lodging package.

For us, it began as a dinner buffet. I chose pork loin to start. Decided it was tasty, and went back for seconds. They ran out and never refilled it. We're not talking about near closing, but at 7 PM!

Another patron and I were eyeing for nearly an eternity to see when they would replace the soup that ran out at the beginning of my dinner buffet. I had to personally ask for the soup to be replaced at the buffet before they did it.

The BBQ chicken was very dry and chewy.

The pasta bar looked promising. Unfortunately, the alfredo sauce was watery and not rich in taste.

Salad was very "mid".

The only highlights were the (probably) store-bought frozen cheesecake and chocolate cake dessert and soft-serve ice cream with toppings.

They did slightly redeem themselves with the omelete bar at the breakfast buffet. The egg benedict was interesting - it's not your typical benedict. The chicken nuggets were a bit on the harder side. Mini corn dogs are passable for kids - they'll probably eat anything. The orange juice was very watered down.

It's very clear that the servers that will bring water / drinks are overwhelmed at peak meal times. The service is very hit-and-miss.

The first night's buffet dinner left such a negative impression that we ended up getting our 2nd night's dinner elsewhere, even though we had already paid for the buffet.

Approach the buffet at your own discretion and with...
