Important basics: Room was clean, sheets were clean, bathroom was clean, bed was comfortable, wifi worked perfectly and was fast, room amenities as advertised.
Details: I called ahead to ask of there was a refrigerator in my room. We were still a ways out and having dinner. If there was a refrigerator, I'd bring our leftovers with us. The lady confirmed that since we were in a suite, it has a refrigerator. (From that conversation, I took it that not all the rooms have a refrigerator.)
She alerted me that there is no one at the desk after about 10:15 PM. I didn't know that, so I'm glad I called. She was about to call me (and a few other who weren't in yet.) While I had phone service in Flagstaff, I hadn't had good service otherwise. Glad I called!
If I were to arrive after 10:15, she would leave me my keys in a special place she mentioned so I could access my room. We arrived around 10PM, and she was still there. Nice to meet her.
Our room AC wasn't on when we arrived. It was hot. I turned it on, we upacked, and went to bed. The AC just wasn't working well. I kept slowly turning it cooler. At one point, it sounded strange and I figured it was iced up so I shut it off for a while. Then, turned it on again. My daughter and I did not sleep well that first night. It was really hot in the room.
I let the desk in the morning and maintenance came in less than an hour. He took it apart and cleaned it, vacuuming the coils. He said if that didn't do it, he'd replace the unit. Well, it cooled beautifully after that! So much better.
We were in room 102. The room had two queen beds. The mattresses were very luxurious. Very tall! A young child, or someone with a physical difficulty might need a stool to get onto the beds. Four pillows per bed, with different kinds of pillows. That was nice.
There was also a desk with a chair, two luggage racks, and night stands. Lamps were only on the outer nightstands. It could use one on the middle night stand.
The middle night stand had a power outlet with USB ports.
The bathroom was large. The sink was lovely. Plenty of towels. The bathroom was clean, but the details could have been better. For example the mirror trim edge and the sink back splash edge had some dust (which I wiped off). The corners of the bathroom floor looked like they were missed in cleaning. Overall, the bathroom was clean; just these fine details that could use some work.
The front entry was into a sitting room with two chairs and and large bench. Also and large refrigerator and microwave.
There was no "do not disturb" sign for me to leave on the door so housekeeping wouldn't need to make the beds and refresh the towels. I usually leave that on so we don't bother the staff during a stay. The beds were made and fresh towels replaced those we used.
The lobby and breakfast were cross the road at The Lodge. The two hotels are apparently owned together. The lobby has a cute gift shop. The breakfast is almost a typical hotel breakfast. It had a waffle maker and sausage, bread for toast, juice, coffee, etc. The one thing missing was the customary hot eggs. That didn't bother us, just that we noticed it.
Breakfast was until 10AM, even on weekdays. While on vacation, this was nice and allowed for lazy mornings.
There are cushioned patio chairs outside the doors. Nice touch! Guests connected outside.
The staff was nice, and helpful.
Parking was adequate and we easily found a spot each night.
There is no guest laundry, but the laundromat is about 2 buildings over. We did a load over there and it was a nice facility.
This was the most luxurious hotel we've ever had for the price. If we are in the area again, we...
Read more...this will be up your alley; you're paying for the nostalgia of spending the night on this little strip of American history. This is an old strip motel with less than adequate parking (right outside the room doors) in the heart of the town of Williams and its shopping district. Malia at front desk is super and is an asset to this business. Rooms are adequate; no phone in rooms, so bring your cell phone along (good cell signal); bed was comfortable; I'm guessing the towels must be washed in soft water because they are incredibly full and soft (not at all what you usually get at a Choice property); shower is adequate. Good TV service and good selection of movie channels. Located right beside an active rail line; spending the night here is reminiscent of 'My Cousin Vinny' as the passing freight trains blare their horns during the night! Rooms are as clean as you get at a Choice property (don't look up at the dust clogging the vents in the bathroom areas), but the experience goes downhill when you walk across the street for breakfast in the morning at another strip motel owned by this same property owner, where there are 9 tables and 27 chairs jammed into the corner of the lobby to provide breakfast for both of these properties... with not enough food. The young person standing like a sergeant-at-arms behind the desk in this lobby left his post to provide service in the breakfast area only when we approached him to let him know there was no milk left, and the cereal was depleted, and there was no juice left, and the yogurt cups were all gone, and the fruit was gone too, and the butter was gone too... the "sausage" patties were so overcooked on one of the 3 mornings we were here that everybody was passing them over... this was just a sub-standard continental breakfast. Rooms are ok, but breakfast...
Read moreLike others I thought this would be a Rodeway Inn with a good price which is rare anywhere near a national park. Well oh boy was I wrong - so much more. We pulled in and the grounds were very nicely decorated in country / western decor - it is an old route 66 motor lodge. The owners own two hotels across from one another - the nicer being the Downtowner. When we got there we had to walk across the street to check in to the lobby - so cute. Check was fast and easy the clerk had everything ready to roll. It was just about dinner time so I had asked about where to eat maybe Italian - he recommended a great place in town and gave us a discount coupon. Now the rooms. Wow. I had reserved the jacuzzi rooms not expecting much but thought it would work since we had done a lot of walking in Vegas. I walked in first then yelled to my husband. We had a beautifully decorated room with a 4 poster bed and such comfy bedding and mattress. Two leather easy chairs. Then thru french doors to the bathroom. Wow two closets one with the toilet and they other the fridge/microwave. This is the only slight complain -toilet closet is tight for larger folks. The sink area had ample counter space. The separate shower cave was just gorgeous. But the best was the jacuzzi tub - nice huge tub so comfy with privacy windows to let in natural light. This room was such a surprise and so beautifully decorated. Outside on the grounds they had common areas with comfy /inviting seating - alot of different travelers just out chit chatting drinking wine. Breakfast was typical chain meal made much better by a nice little area of lobby. We sat on the porch! Awesome. If going to the GCNP this is highly recommended option over...
