ATTENTION IF YOU ARE DISABLED AND HAVE A WORKING SERVICE ANIMAL||Mind Typos Have trouble typing due to my disability. ||||At approximately 1:56 PM Arizona Time on 2/13/21, I called to confirm my accommodations for my working service animal. I was told by the person who answered the phone who refused to give me his name, I can only assume out of fear, that I will have to bring proof that my dog in deed is a working service animal. I very upset , explained how that is illegal and he then explained to me that he is sorry ,, his son has autism, then told me he died two years ago, and also that it is the policy of management to have guest provide such proof.|||| It is not a matter of what I think about how I was treated for providing fare warning for accommodation that I have every right to ask for, it is a matter of what the Law states and we are all accountable to abide by. I do not need to bring proof of my disability or even divulge any more personal information than is necessary. If you do not like having working service animals at your hotel, do not run a hotel in the United States of America where I am very proud to be protected by the hard work of all our Veterans who fought for us who , many whom have survived and are disabled themselves and certainly hope they do not go through this when they go there. ||||||||||||According to the ADA.gov website, a hotel (or any business meant for use by the general public) can not legally request proof of your disability or the need for a service animal.||||1. Is the animal required because of a disability?||||2. What work or task has the animal been trained to perform?||||Those are the only questions a company can ask someone with a working service animal.||||||I do not need to bring proof of my disability because I bring it wherever I go because I am the living proof regardless if it is visible or in any way experience by this company or the individiual who answeredd the phone. |||| It is not my problem that the company fails to know modern laws protecting its disabled citizens. I should not have to walk in there making loud, abrupt , noises while wearing a helmet just for people to take the laws seriously that protects accessibility for Americans such as myself. Just because you do not like something or agree with my chosen forms of surviving and navigating this world , does not mean that I should care or even bat an eye, Especially when the law states that what your company is doing is illegal and unethical. If you are disabled , I highly recommend bringing an advocate who is not a working service animal or also disabled because they may not follow the law and make your long trip there even longer. ||||Very sad experience. I wish I could have gone . I was looking forward to the supposed compassion from the owners and staff that I had read so many great...
Read moreWe spent an overnight in May,2023 at the Highlander Motel. They had shortcomings But most lodging does in one way or another. The Highlander being an older motel is smaller in all respects. So it is not a four seasons resort. The motel is close to a lot of things which is a real plus. Walkability is excellent. Parking is OK at best. It is tight but not drastically so. They only want you to pull in which makes loading and unloading more difficult since now you have to lug bags around the back or past doors, then open them. But that is nit picking. You may have to back out to the road depending on your vehicle. Smaller vehicles will be able to turn around. The room was small. But it works for an overnight. It is clean, the TV works decent and has a fair amount of channels. The AC is on a switch near the door. So there is no adjusting the temperature. Our room had a king bed which the wife found OK. I didn't care for it. It is up against the wall, so one must climb in and out from the end of the bed. Or be very thin that you could side step over the corner, then down the side. But you can't turn around to enter the bed. Older and or less thin folks may find this bed an issue. There was a nice little desk, but it had no chair. So it was just a catch all. The sink area is outside the toilet and tub room. Depending on ones preference, this could be good or bad. we liked it. The shower and toilet are in a small room, but big enough to be functional. Again one of the trade offs of an older motel. The shower had lighter, but adequate pressure. The water was soft. And the shower head had a rotating water action. It was different. We didn't rate service, since other than checking in, there was no contact. Although the man who checked us in seemed friendly. The price we paid was approximately $55. It was in that area. Then there were taxes and fees that bumped the price up to $85 for a Monday night. But this also didn't include breakfast. So we went next door to Jessica's for breakfast. We both had Ham and cheese omelettes with coffee. With a tip, that cost us approximately $40. So if you add the $40 for breakfast to the $85 for the room. The cost of our overnight stay was approximately $125. Yes one probably could have eaten cheaper someway. This was just our example. So at that cost, I do wonder if it may not be worth considering other lodging options. But keep in mind, they may have similar costs and taxes as well. So all in all, the Highlander is a clean and reasonably priced motel, that is located within walking distance to a lot of the village shops and restaurants. So it is well worth considering. Especially if just...
Read moreHORRIBLE!! No amenities, No service
The driveway and parking spots were full of snow, nothing shoveled!! The front desk guy is like, 'the person responsible for shoveling dint show up'. Fine we take that as an answer.
The room, as rightly pointed out by others is renovated( means new flooring and bathroom hardware. Rest everything seemed from 80s or even older). But hold on, what is a renovated room worth, if nothing works...
I turned on the TV and there were no channels/shows. I called the front desk and the answer is, 'storm may have led to disconnection, but internet works'. That seemed like an absolute lie, since the Direct TV screen said, no subscriptions have been made!! Whatever, we decided to live off TV..
Next, no warm water in shower!! This was Epic. We called front desk, no one answered. I walked up to the office and it was shut. There was a note with a phone number, I called and the guy is like, oh I can't fix the heater, you can go search the cleaning lady(seen nowhere) and ask for another room key and go take shower in the other room. He was like I can't call the cleaning lady, nor can I come to work (so basically, that means he can do nothing). We ended up taking shower with cold water on a chilly morning.
The entire stay was a complete nightmare.. full of excuses..all the front desk guy said was I can't do anything and the owners are out of -town and I can't contact them either!!
Most motels nearby, had similar pricing and offered breakfast too. I wish we had made a...
