The first time we went to Vietnam 🇻🇳, we had no clue about anything. We did not know where to go, where to eat, what to eat... 😓 Now that we have an insider in the family (my brother in law who's been living there for years), we don't even have to wonder. He just takes us to places he loves. 🥳 For lunch he took us to Bún Chả Bình Minh - Nem Cua Bể for Bún Chả (of course). I'm gonna be honest: I had no clue about Bún Chả. So I'm gonna assume many won't know about it either and explain: it's pork 🐖 belly (or fatty pork, in general), pork meatballs and rice vermicelli + diluted fish 🐟 sauce and some green stuff (lettuce 🥬, summer mint, etc.), basically. OK, explained like this, I realize I already had this in France 🇫🇷 a couple of years ago. But at Bún Chả Bình Minh - Nem Cua Bể, it was served in a bowl of soup, whereas in France 🇫🇷 I had it dry. We added nems to it and everything was absolutely delicious. The broth was not too strong but with the fat of the pork, it gained richness and texture. If there's one thing I didn't like too much, it's that the "burnt" part of the grilled pork spreaded in the soup. That's not healthy and that does not look good. 👎 Another thing that did not look good: the venue... We ended up in a storage room in the back of the restaurant. I would never accept this in Europe 🇪🇺 (and I'm sure nobody would even suggest it) but in Vietnam 🇻🇳 I thought that was fun. 😅 The price? VND60K per person... €2! 😃

They don’t tell you the price then make a price up (it’s fine not like the scam price is expensive) but it’s how they do it. I asked how much and they said 100k (tourist menu is 50k local menu is 15k) and then they saw me get my money out and realised I had 200k notes and just shouted until a guy came over and explained it was 100k per person. I’ve now read other reviews and seems like a similar story if you’re white
I had paid the 100k and left a small tip but after a bit of shouting and the little woman grabbing me I couldn’t be arsed arguing over £2. I’d say give it a miss if you don’t want to end your meal with shouting and grabbing and a bad taste in your mouth.
Weirdest part, just say 200k and I would’ve been like yeah whatever, the scam is that of what an elementary school child would think up… guess I’m the sucker that it works on! Alas, I only wanted the crab spring rolls and she wouldn’t let me order them just slapped a bowl of fatty meat infront of me (people say this is another item they scam on saying it’s 20k then giving you a plate with 5/6 and charging...
Read moreA truly great place to get an authentic Vietnamese street food experience. The bun cha with its flavorful sauce is just the right amount of sweetness to compliment the Nem (fried spring rolls). Really hits the spot with the many varieties of added leafy greens like mint, lettuce, and some other exotic leaves to complete the palette. Then finally there’s the freshly chopped garlic and chillies that shoot all the other flavors to another level. This place is really got it all. The authentic food and vibe. Just watching & hearing all the street activities along with all the quaint and charming shops around. The lady that works there is the sweetest lady you”ll find in Hanoi. Very jolly and the true Vietnamese kindness you can find here....
