My recent dining experience at this restaurant left much to be desired. I arrived a few minutes before 10:30 hoping to avail of the combo meal, only to encounter a significant language barrier while trying to communicate my order. Despite my efforts to convey my request for the 88k combo with a few sides, there seemed to be a misunderstanding regarding the timing. Unfortunately, I was informed that the discount couldn't be applied as it was past 10:30, leading to me paying the full price, which was disappointing given the circumstances.
The ordeal continued when the food finally arrived. Regrettably, the new waitress had placed the wrong order. In a rush, I politely requested to rectify the mistake and cancel the incorrect dish. However, I was met with resistance and told that I must accept the dish I didn't order originally. Feeling uncomfortable with this situation, I suggested ordering an alternative, like dumplings, for a quicker turnaround, offering to pay an equivalent price. Shockingly, I was denied this request and given an ultimatum between the mistakenly ordered dish and my original choice. This felt like an inhumane way to treat a customer.
Moving to the quality of the food, it was notably lackluster. The flavors were subpar, and there was a distinct absence of authenticity, especially concerning the sauces accompanying the dishes. Cantonese cuisine typically offers a variety of sauces, yet I was provided only with spicy and soy sauces, which was disappointing.
Despite the beautiful interior, the service and food fell short of expectations. Additionally, it felt like the staff saw an opportunity to capitalize on my status as a foreign customer by refusing to honor the discount, despite my clear and immediate request for it. While I understand there might have been a communication breakdown due to the language barrier, it seemed that they were more focused on maximizing profits than ensuring customer satisfaction. The refusal to rectify the mistake or offer any alternative solutions left me feeling disregarded and undervalued as a patron. It's disheartening when a restaurant fails to acknowledge mistakes and offer reasonable solutions. There's ample room for improvement in both customer service and food quality, and I hope the establishment takes this feedback constructively to enhance the overall dining experience for...
Read moreAs a Hong Kong Citizen, I am interested in try different restaurants outside HK which claims themselves serving Hong Kong cusine. During the early of July 2024, I travelled to Hanoi and saw this restaurant with this statement, besides, it was so closed to my hotel, therefore, I went to this restaurant one time.
I ordered a siu mei platter (BBQ pork, roasted pork belly, roasted duck) and plate of Tong choi. When they served the food, I felt quite surprised that the presenation was quite HK style, expect the sauce. The taste of barbecued pork is different from that in Hong Kong, both in texture and taste. But it's very tender and has a little fat. The sauce was a bit weird, not quite Hong Kong style, but the pork outside was little bit burnt with some caramel around it, which were the spirit of Cantonese BBQ. They have a good control on this part.
The layers of roasted pork belly and roasted duck were clear, with crispy skin and good seasoning. However, the fat of the pork belly is a bit thick, which it is a bit fatty to me, thus, I did not eat all fats of the pork.
The meun also provided other signature Hong Kong dim sum, I may visit it again when I travel there next time. Overall, the siu mei are little bit different from Hong Kong style, but they cook quite delicious and the presentation they served are some similar...
Read morethe waiter asked me if I am Chinese or Vietnamese, then said there is a table for me on the second floor. And it’s a table by the window. Will there be a difference if I said Vietnamese?
Pork dumpling(小籠包) not enough soup inside and the soup is not hot enough, also this has to pair with a brown vinegar, but they have the cheap red vinegar only. Add some on top then eat the whole dumpling altogether. Then try one without vinegar, then you know the acidity balanced the flavor.
Shrimp dumpling(蝦餃) the traditional one should mix with fat pork but nowadays, even shrimp dumpling in HK may not mix with pork to make it “healthier”. So this dumpling with pure shrimp is actually quite good, the whole dumpling is fresh, if the skin could be thinner, then it will meet the 1st tier. I understand that people should enjoy foods their way, but, please try to have it without any sauce. No matter what sauce you have, it will ruin the freshness of shrimp dumpling.
Veg in broth(金銀蛋浸菜) a very simple dish, you just put whatever green leave veg in broth with salted duck egg and thousand years egg. Nothing could go wrong.
Dry egg noddle with Char Siu(叉燒撈麵) the Char Siu is bad, too dry and not correctly flavored. The noddle is okay.
Given the price and this quality, I would give it 2 stars, plus one because I am...
