If you are looking for a cozy and charming place to enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of history, look no further than Cộng Cà Phê. This branch of the popular coffee chain is located near Hoan Kiem Lake and has a quaint rustic authentic interior that will make you feel like you've stepped back in time. The bookshelves and vintage photos on the walls create a warm and nostalgic atmosphere while the army green interior walls and tight narrow spiral stairs add to the authentic feel of this place. The coffee here is strong and flavorful, and you can choose from a variety of options. The staff is friendly and attentive and the service is fast and efficient. It is a perfect spot to relax and unwind or to catch up with friends while emersed in the cacophonous sounds of the city traffic in the background. It is also a great place to learn more about the history and culture of Vietnam, as the cafe is decorated with memorabilia and artifacts from the past. This cafe is not just a coffee shop, it is a destination. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves coffee and history.
One of the highlights of this cafe is the ice coconut coffee and the ice coconut mung bean drink, which I would think are two of the more popular drinks on the menu. Both of these drinks are perfect for a hot day, and they will leave you feeling satisfied and energized. If you are looking for something different and tasty, you should definitely try these drinks at Cộng Cà Phê. You will...
Read moreThis coffee place takes pride in their claim of having the "Best Coconut Coffee in Hanoi", as reiterated by one of their servers. On our last day in Hanoi, we went to this shop near Hoan Kiem Lake, and I would say they did not disappoint.
Before coming here, I inquired from their counter if it was okay to bring food from another establishment, and they agreed to it. So after securing Banh Mi from Banh My Mama, I went here and ordered their Coconut Coffee. Picked up the drink from their second floor to third floor, and it did not disappoint—fits well with banh mi sandwich!
There was an option to sit outside for a view of the area and the lake, but since it was quite hot, we stayed inside to enjoy the aircon. The ambience was super nice—rugged with some "commies feel" EXCEPT FOR THE SMELL OF THE THIRD FLOOR that reeks of urine from either a cat or a rat (hence the 3-star comment). It didn't prevent us from finishing our brunch inside though, so all in all it was still an okay experience.
Word of caution: this place gets packed on weekends especially Sundays, where most locals troop near the lake to enjoy some activities. The next time I return to Hanoi, I will defo get my coffee fix here again and also in their branch near the St. Joseph Cathedral.
FYI, they also sell instant coconut coffee, chamomile, and other goods. The Instant Coconut Coffee is a steal for 65K/12 packs—so go and bring sachets of good...
Read moreIt was at this branch of Cong Ca Phe where I had my first cup of coffee in over six years. I had completely stayed away from coffee, not even in any kind of dessert. It was total abstinence. But being in Hanoi, I thought, what better time and place to finally break my six-year streak?
Lo and behold, I was both excited and terrified as I took my first sip of their famous coconut coffee. It felt like the gates of coffee paradise had opened to welcome back its prodigal son (yes, I also think I might have exaggerated it too much 😅). For a moment, I worried what if I got sick, had a headache, or acid reflux, but none of that happened. Instead, every sip was a delight. It was fresh, earthy, creamy, and really satisfying.
And truly, no exaggeration, their coconut coffee is one of the best I’ve had in Vietnam. I loved it so much I tried it again in other branches, with their avocado coconut coffee coming in as a close second. The cafe’s aesthetic also adds so much to the experience. The war-era theme contrasted with soft green hues and warm wood interiors creates a space that feels both nostalgic and comforting.
Cong Ca Phe is definitely one of those cafes that scream Vietnam, and it’s an experience I’d...
