Best bun cha outside of Hà Nội. For starters and some context let me say, that bun cha is one of my favourite Vietnamese dishes. My father in law (who is from Hanoi) prepares it everytime we visit. When we were in Hanoi we had bun cha almost every day and tried a lot of different and renowned places. I would say, that I know the dish quite well and can judge it.
The dish is being served with fresh herbs, chili, garlic vinegar and black pepper. The owner (who is super nice) will explain to people who never had bun cha how to correctly eat it in order to maximise flavor and the experience. In my opinion it is a great gesture of hospitality.
The dish itself has great balance of flavour with tender juicy meatballs and a great sauce/soup that has a twist I have not experienced before. The owner adds just a touch of apple juice in the sauce (usually people add apple vinegar if at all). The juice adds a great sweetness to the dish that is a great twist to the classic. My only criticism would be that I am not a fan of minced meat in my bun cha but I prefer slices of beef. That's a personal preference though.
Must visit...
Read moreIf you're looking for a place in Hoi An where the food is not only delicious, but served with heart, be sure to visit Bùn Chà Ta Hanoi. We ate there phenomenal spring rolls and Bún Chả Tá full version, which were a real explosion of flavors - fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned meat and aromatic side dishes.
However, the highlights don't end there! The owner turned out to be extremely hospitable - he treated us to homemade rice wine and passionately talked about Hoi An and the surrounding area. As it turned out, he was a tour guide before he started working here, so his knowledge of the region is vast. It's not only a restaurant visit, but also an unforgettable cultural experience.
We recommend this place wholeheartedly! Wonderful food, great atmosphere and hospitality you...
Read moreTasty food and a pleasant atmosphere. The Bun Cha Ta broth was a tad sweet for my raste, but it could be as I get older my palette is changing. Nonetheless I finished everything and they were even nice enough to offer a whole extra bowl of salad to go in! The standard salad portion is already more than sufficient and adds a nice mix of flavours.
The chili is hot, in my case 5 pieces was enough and I probably shouldnt have bit into it as it turns up the heat fast, so be careful if you're sensitive to chili, just add a little and taste the difference in the broth. I didn't add the raw garlic to mine as a personal preference, although I use it extensively in my cooking.
Reasonable prices, but not the cheapest around. Expect to pay around 100,000 to 200,000 per person...
