A very authentic vietnamese eatery for locals. This was recommended by our vietnamese tailor. I must warn you that if you go during prime dinner hours the volume of chatter is deafening. However he food in general is very good and reasonably priced. The steamed clams in lemon grass was an undisputed winner. It actually ws more of a Soup but it was heavenly. The lemon grass was so tender that you could suck it between your teeth and get the aromatic juices out of each stem which is too fibrous to eat. A side bowl of rice noodles to go with the broth would be great but that’s my take. We had bbq quail but it overdone and charred so much it was difficult to bite into it. Normally quali is a treat. Seafood noodle was in adequate but not much seafood. This seems to be a general trend in vietnamese restaurants including the night markets. We also had a bbq dish filet in tin foil. It was quite salty and the sauce could have been lemongrass. It was too salty for my liking but flavours were good. Unfortunately it was a thin cut steak so was bony and not really much flesh for consumption. Beers are. Heap grocery store prices. All around us people were having hot pot which was very popular and we saw pork belly being roasted but we didn’t try those. The atmosphere is something of a shock if you are from North America but despite my review I would say this is definitely worth a try. Just go when the locals are not there. Our bill came to 510 vietnamese dollars. Or $30 Cdn or $22 is dollars. The tables are sticky and so are the menus. But I’d say definitely worth a try especially for the clams alone !!! In fairness we didn’t have the advantage of going with a local so could not determine the...
Read moreThis is where the locals eat and where you can really experience the true local stuff, so highly recommend for curious tourists. Great value for money too. Thankfully, they also have an English menu. It is really difficult to get the staff’s attention and they don’t really acknowledge if they heard you - but they were incredibly busy..
5 stars for atmosphere because it was a local authentic experience.
Roast pork and calamari were the favorites. They had a specialty grilled catfish with local spices which I reckon might be an acquired taste. Definitely worth a try because it was tasty even though it didn’t look...
