I’d heard stories about this place: laid-back vibe, great music, and the occasional epic dance-off. Little did I know, I was about to become part of the bar's next hilarious tale.
The night started innocently enough – a few drinks, some classic reggae tunes, and a lively crowd. As the evening wore on, the atmosphere got even more relaxed and fun. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the DJ announced a limbo contest. Now, I hadn’t done limbo since a family reunion when I was ten, but fueled by liquid courage and the cheers of new friends, I decided to give it a go.
The bar staff set up a makeshift limbo stick – well, it was actually a broomstick, but who’s judging? – and the contest began. People were surprisingly flexible, and the bar was filled with laughter and cheers. When it was my turn, I approached the broomstick with the confidence of a seasoned limbo champion.
As I bent backward, trying to defy gravity, I felt pretty good about my chances. That is, until the broomstick started wobbling. In a split second, I lost my balance, flailed my arms wildly, and, in true slapstick fashion, ended up knocking the entire broomstick setup over. The broomstick clattered to the floor, drinks were spilled, and I landed flat on my back – right in front of the band.
For a moment, there was silence. Then, the band started playing a spontaneous reggae riff, and the crowd erupted in laughter and applause. Even the bartender couldn’t stop laughing as he helped me up and handed me a free drink, saying, “Best limbo fail we’ve seen in a while, mate!”
From that night on, I was known as “Limbo Larry”. Every time I visited after that, the DJ would give me a shoutout, and the regulars would reenact my legendary fall. It became a running joke and a fond memory of my time in Hoi An.
So, if you ever find yourself at Route 66, remember: it’s all about having fun, even if it means becoming the star of the night’s funniest anecdote. Cheers to reggae, good vibes, and unforgettable (and sometimes...

Read moreOn the way back to our place with my boyfriend, we stopped by this small pub. It wasn’t like the commercial, touristy spots in Old Town—it had this fun, chill vibe and was playing some really cool music. The food I got wasn’t even on the menu; the manager insisted I try it, and honestly, I’m glad I did. It’s not a tourist trap or anything, just a laid-back place where you can really relax. Perfect spot to wind down after a long day.
Nothing like a little reggae to help...
