A Culinary Heaven in Hoi An – Sampan Cantonese Seafood & Bar
I never thought a restaurant could give me an experience like this. Sampan Cantonese Seafood & Bar didn’t just raise the bar – it completely redefined my understanding of how perfect food can be.
I was in Hoi An for only two days, and I spent both evenings here. After my first dinner, I couldn’t stop thinking about what I had eaten – and after the second, I knew this taste would stay with me for a long time.
A Duck That Changes Everything
I ordered the duck, and I still can’t get over how incredible it was. It was carved right in front of us and served in three different ways – the crispy skin wrapped in delicate spring rolls, a rich and flavorful soup made from the bones, and the tender, juicy meat paired with noodles. Every bite was a revelation – so soft, so moist, so deeply flavorful. I’ve had duck many times before, but I never knew it could be this good.
A Crab That Speaks for Itself
At Sampan Cantonese Seafood & Bar, you can choose how your dishes are prepared, and I opted for the Hong Kong-style crab. It was the perfect choice – expertly cooked, packed with flavor, and seasoned just right. The spices enhanced the natural taste of the fresh crab without overpowering it. Every bite melted in my mouth.
More Than Just a Meal – A True Experience
This is not just a restaurant. Every detail is perfected – from the presentation to the atmosphere, to the way guests are treated. The owner and his wife make you feel genuinely special. They welcome you with warmth and respect, as if you were an old friend.
Sampan Cantonese Seafood & Bar is one of the most exclusive restaurants I’ve been to – but surprisingly, not the most expensive. And when it comes to quality? There’s no competition. This was the best dining experience of my life. If you’re in Hoi An, go to Sampan...

Read moreSampan Restaurant was truly a delightful surprise. We had grown tired of Hoi An cuisine and seafood, and while browsing online, we happened to stumble upon this place. It’s a bit of a pity that there were only two of us, so we couldn’t try many dishes. I suspect that the roasted duck is the restaurant’s signature dish, as many guests were ordering it.
When you order half or a whole duck, the friendly staff will first serve the crispy, aromatic skin with its rich flavor. Then, the remaining meat and bones are used to prepare two additional dishes of your choice.
We also tried the eggplant with salted fish and minced pork, but the portion was quite small and it didn’t leave as strong an impression as the roasted duck.
The restaurant offers a few types of tea, and I would highly recommend their hand-pounded ginger tea. It’s delicious and works like a remedy when you’re not feeling well.
Last but not least, all the staff were very friendly and engaging (though as an introvert, I personally don’t enjoy being asked too many questions). The owner, who is also the chef, came to our table to explain the dishes, while his wife shared the names and health benefits of the teas.
I’ll definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to try Chinese...
