Construction The bridge was built with minimal impact on road and river traffic. Piles were dug 30 meters into the ground to support the structure. The final 10-meter, 20-tonne span was placed on February 27, 2023. The bridge was built using over 1000 tonnes of structural steel.
Naming The bridge is named after Neville Bonner, Australia's first Indigenous parliamentarian. Bonner was a strong advocate for Indigenous rights and served as a federal senator for Queensland in the 1970s and 1980s.
