It's hard to believe this is a 5-star hotel given its facilities and hygiene conditions! The WiFi cuts out every single day! Aside from the location and the politeness of the staff, it’s difficult to find any other redeeming quality.
⭕️ Location: 270m from the nearest metro station, 300m from the train station, and about 1.1km to Nyhavn. This might be the only real advantage of the hotel!
⭕️ Cleanliness: Poor! There were stains on the bed sheets (see photos). The duvet had long female coloured hairs, short male hairs, and various black marks. The electric kettle had heavy limescale buildup, making it unusable. And this is supposed to be a 5-star hotel? Unbelievable! ❗️
⭕️ Room amenities: ✅ Air conditioning ✅ Disposable slippers ✅ Wardrobe ✅ Hangers ✅ Full-length mirror ✅ Tissues (in bathroom) ✅ Toilet paper 🧻 ✅ Coffee machine BUT the coffee machine and kettle share the same outlet, so you have to constantly unplug and switch between them. ✅ Curtains have good blackout effect for sleeping in, but not motorized. ✅ WiFi available but very unstable – it disconnects every day and requires frequent reconnection. ❌ No universal power socket – international travelers must bring their own adapter.
⭕️ Bathroom: ✅ Shower is partially separate (wet/dry), but water still splashes out. ✅ Hair dryer ✅ Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap, bath towels, bathrobe, cotton pads, cotton swabs, shower cap ❌ No toothbrush, toothpaste, face cleanser, body wash (yes, no body wash!), or comb – bring your own. 🚿 Good water pressure and wide spray. The toilet flush is weak, and one of the buttons is broken – sometimes it sticks and causes water to keep running!
⭕️ Soundproofing: Terrible! You can hear everything: bar music outside, car horns, footsteps in the hallway, things falling upstairs, wind howling outside – it’s all crystal clear! Worst of all, the door doesn’t close properly – there’s a visible gap, just like those horror movie scenes where the monster’s chasing you and the door won’t shut❗️
⏭️ To make things worse, there’s construction noise inside the hotel! I literally came here to escape renovation noise at home, only to encounter the same noise in a so-called 5-star hotel – truly haunting!
The entire hotel feels old and poorly maintained. Not only are the facilities dated, but basic cleanliness is unacceptable. How could such a large, obvious black stain be ignored and used as a "fresh" bedsheet?
And the weirdest thing? The bathroom window uses only a sheer curtain – no frosted glass for privacy! You can see clearly into the opposite building… which means they can see you too when you shower! It's like unintentional livestreaming.
The bathroom’s transparent design oddly resembles scenes often found in those 2-3 actors adult films — quite the curious aesthetic choice for a five-star...

Ah, the Radisson Collection Royal Hotel in Copenhagen—where five-star expectations go to rest. We arrived late thanks to a delayed flight, but not to worry! I had messaged the hotel in advance. The check-in lady was lovely, though, giving us the lowdown on the local sights and the breakfast buffet. Things were looking up…for a whole five minutes.
Stepping into our room, we got the authentic “five-star experience.” The decor? Well-worn, to say the least. There was charming limescale on the shower head and floor, and the door frame looked like someone’s dog had enjoyed a good nibble. But, no dental kits! When we requested them, they finally arrived—proving that some amenities are available if you work for them.
Moving on to the noise. You’ve got the trains clattering nearby, chimes of the Clock Tower and, as a bonus, nightly saxophone serenades from across the road near the Espresso House. The street musician kindly starts at 6 PM and plays until midnight, just so you don’t accidentally get any peace. But there’s a warning sign on the window to not leave anything on the ledge in case it rains, which was oddly specific.
Then there’s the soundproofing—or complete lack thereof. The rooms are so close together that we were practically part of the neighbour’s conversations. You can hear doors opening and closing whilst inside your room, which is convenient if you ever get lonely.
Now, for the pièce de résistance: the mugs. Nothing says “luxury” like finding someone else’s lipstick on your cup. But wait, it gets better! After room service had come and gone, they kindly left the exact same used mugs, complete with lipstick and coffee stains. Call it vintage charm, or just poor housekeeping—I’ll leave that up to you.
Of course, the TV didn’t work either, which was no big deal since it works like a radio what a charm! Who needs to see the screen when you can imagine what you’re hearing! And then there was the air conditioning/heater unit, which was purely decorative. Press any button you like; nothing’s going to happen. Comfort? Overrated.
As for the staff, let’s just say they offered a “unique” approach to customer service. Some were genuinely helpful, others seemed blissfully unbothered. A real mixed bag.
I’ve stayed at Radisson properties before and had great experiences, so I can only guess that booking through a third-party platform made us second-tier guests. But honestly, five stars shouldn’t hinge on where you book.
In short, if you’re after a five-star stay, I’d recommend trying, well, literally anywhere else. Had I known, I’d have booked elsewhere and probably gotten a better night’s sleep, no...
Read moreI cannot express how disappointed I am with Radisson Collection Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. But it is probably on me for having such high hopes.
The rooms look like those aesthetic New York apartments, and I actually booked this hotel to have a bigger space. 40 m2 for an average priced suite seemed of great value. Something was wrong with the design of our bathroom door, the floor was too high up so the door got stuck whenever we tried to move it. Room service was literally terrible. Despite specifically noting that I am sensitive to dust, the only thing done in the room was placing clean towels and remaking the bed (I told them I needed the sheets swapped every couple of days but was refused.) housekeeping was always very late and on one occasion they forgot about our room despite having the sign “please clean my room” hung outside of the door. When we complained to the reception about it, the reception that never answered the phone when we called five times every day from our room, they said that the housekeeping would come tomorrow because they don’t work at night. Should have cleaned the room during the day, then. The breakfast was said to be one of the best ones of the city yet nothing too special was present. The a-la-carte menu was too small for my liking, but the food was decent to start the day I guess. Their options of bread and omelette were delicious if that excites you. Issei, the “fusion of Japanese and Peruvian” food didn’t at all comply with their concept. Nothing of Japanese and Peruvian culture to be noted was present if we should count edamame and white rice. The presentation of certain dishes like the octopus and eggplant-sweet potato stir looked delicate and thoughtful but too oily and spicy for my liking. The waiters serving in Issei dismissed us a couple of times before gathering our order, their sing song attitude was not appreciated. The matcha ice cream was too bland. The pistachio dessert plate (pistachio ice cream, chocolate cake, crumbs &nuts) was too sugary.
A plus to this hotel is that it is relatively close to Stroget, the main pedestrian shopping street which we really enjoyed exploring every day. But we had been promised a “lake view” and let me tell you, the lake took one percent of the view- almost invisible 😅
Overall, I don’t think it qualified for an ideal visit but I’m glad I booked these rooms despite all the flaws because they were pretty large and...
