What a hotel & team! We stayed for 4 nights and got to fully try out all the hotel has to offer. When we arrived, we were greeted by Craig Hum. Who was extremely helpful in grabbing our bags, guided us to reception, and a casual a chat to us whilst we waited to check in. He immediately remembered our names and for the the rest of our stay, always greeted us by name, and was so friendly and helpful. *Room* We stayed in a deluxe harbour view room which was nice. We were given a lovely bottle of fizz along with a small treat for our stay which was a lovely touch! It’s always nice to see a personalised message from the hotel, especially one which has as many guests as this! *Breakfast* We chose to have the buffet most days. Food on offer was well cooked, the egg station is brilliant and the hot drinks on offer are well made, as well as fresh juices *Dinner* We ate at the restaurant twice, and both times it was fantastic, for context, we also ate at some of the 1* places on the island (Under Grain) and we both felt we had a nicer and more enjoyable meal at the Phoenicia! Food was very well cooked, the staff are amazing, and the Wine list is very good. Highly recommend the Salt Baked Sea Bass and the Tiramisu! *Service* Throughout this entire stay I wondered if i booked the right hotel, I was torn between The Phoenicia or Iniala Harbour House. And having had the treatment from the Staff at the Phoenicia, I can confidently say we stayed at the right place! It is always good to receive nice service, but when the staff in the hotel actually remember your name, your preferences, your booking without looking at their system etc. it shows that the team here give it that extra bit of attention to detail and care. Whilst I am sure all the staff here are brilliant, the following staff members we met with/encountered really were exceptional: Door: Craig Restaurant (dinner): Alejandro, Saaswat Breakfast: Rex Restaurant Front of house: There were 2 members of female staff who both greeted us and made bookings etc. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see their name badges (angles and it was dark) but they were both fantastic. We can not wait to come back and visit again!

Valetta’s fairytale retreat - utterly glorious. I shed a tear when we had to leave Saturday morning. My world for 6 days was the Phoenicia and room 229 and I didn’t want to leave. This place has something magic about it - and really made our trip to Valetta a once in a lifetime experience. It really does give a feel of a home away from home - albeit a 5 star version with friendly faces to help you with everything and anything at every turn! Premium but never snobby or stiff in atmosphere, comfortable luxury - like slipping on silk pyjamas. The location is perfect for exploring Valetta at the drop of a hat then retreating to an oasis as needed. We loved walking out the city gate every evening across the fountain to the beautiful grand entrance as our post dinner journey home - idyllic. The rooms are so lovely - a balcony, ridiculously comfy bed, exquisite Aqua Di Parma toiletries, make up table, TV, en suite bathroom, robes and slippers etc. Nothing not accommodated for! The people, food and facilities really are exemplary. I can’t rave enough about everyone we spoke to from reception, to the porter and concierge to the restaurant servers and pool staff - you are all gems and made us feel so special and looked after. The breakfast was a spread of dreams with everything you can imagine and then more - honeycomb dripping fresh honey into a bowl, the freshly squeezed orange juice and gluten free croissants on request (that actually had layers and was flaky and hot) were highlights but barely scratch the surface of the feast on offer. The Bastion pool is just gorgeous, what a place to set up for the day; and the indoor pool/gym/spa (with salt room) kept us coming back - about three times during our stay! I also had a massage which was incredible, and the masseuse was so kind and unsolicited helped with some skincare as well as taking all my back pain away. Our first time in Valetta and The Phoenicia - but we are determined not our last. Till next time - Ċaw & grazzi! Alexandra Baker

After detailing my preferences to Original Travel for exploring Malta—cooking lessons, winery visits, city exploration, and a New Year's Eve gala—I received a single proposed itinerary with only one hotel: Phoenicia Hotel. The specialist assured it met all criteria. Departed NYC on 12/26, arrived at the grand hotel with a suitable room and balcony. Before dinner, faced an unwelcome experience at the Club Bar, where the hotel's reputation clashed with reality. Joe, the porter, intervened, securing a table with a view.Later, eagerly anticipating the gala, I encountered another disappointment. The gala's 5-course menu did not include alcohol, and a mix-up with the wine order left me frustrated. I ordered a red wine from their wine list and they brought out a Chardonnay and proceeded to argue with me. On the last day, expecting a zero-balance folio, was presented with a bill for the gala, despite prepayment. The front desk demanded proof, despite my prepaid stay since July 2023, creating further frustration. This hotel is supposed to be one of the Leading Hotels of the World, which consists of a “curated collection of 400+ independent luxury resorts, chalets, safari camps, and more, where families of artisans are committed to creating story-worthy moments for those in search of the world’s most unique experiences.” Establishments associated with this luxury brand are hailed as the “who’s who of the globe’s most distinguished hotels…” Well, this hotel failed. It failed at the basics, it failed on service. It failed on human decency and respect. This experience was abysmal, and the only thing story-worthy is letting people know that if you are looking for an unforgettable experience of opulence and unparalleled service - this is not the place. From the blatant racism to subpar service, the Phoenicia Hotel is the anti-pattern to everything luxury, 5-star, fundamental hotel operations, and treating people with respect.

We went for a one night stay as a gift for my mother's birthday ........ It was a wonderful experience from the minute we arrived until the last! Service is exceptional - honoring the 5STAR highest standards... Which to be honest it dose not compare with an other hotel in malta... (I had been to most of them in the past) I was impressed with the communication between all departments to make our break a great one ... I have various food intolerances and breakfast is one of my favorite meals of the day.... Which unfortunately in many hotels this is taken lightly and usually many of my requirements are ignored especially when it comes to dairy products & desserts.... But gladly not at Phoenicia! I was welcomed by name by Mrs Sandra - The lovely Breakfast Manager. She coordinated our breakfast and made sure it was served in the most professional way. I was offered exactly what I asked for in a highly safe manner, with also freshly baked gluten & vegan scones as sweets.. Also cannot not mention the warm service by Godwina. Then we had a spa treatment by the amazing therapists Jasminka & Grace.... Jasminka was my therapist, she is so soulfully passionate- trust me on this since Im a therapist myself 😊 I truly cannot wait to go again! To the whole Phoenicia Team, Keep shining your light & making many hearts happy ! See you soon Michela

Lovely hotel right outside the main gates to Valletta, room was comfortable and had all the amenities, and the pool area was perfect. The team were all on point, friendly and helpful, and they all wore PPE and ensured social distancing was adhered to (even with one of us moving the sun loungers constantly to ensure maximum exposure ☺️). Photos are of the pool, food, and some fun drinks which we had there on the days we used the pool. The only critique is the pricing isn’t built for parties of more than two per room, we were a party of three and getting an additional roll away in a double room would have cost more than getting a second room, which we ended up doing. Would encourage them to have options for parties of three or four who prefer to share a room - ended up paying £1,400 for two rooms over for three nights, which during these times is a little ridiculous when having two double beds in one room would have been more than sufficient and more cost friendly. While it was an excellent stay with an excellent, welcoming team, and a great location, if you’re watching costs and more than two people, may want to look elsewhere given the person per room restrictions. This doesn’t detract from the overall rating.

You can not get a better location than The Phoenicia Malt as it's situated right at the main city gate entrance where all the taxis and buses run, making it extremely convenient. NOTE: The hotel offers a Mercedes-Benz C-Class car for 25 EUR or you can go by bus for 2 EUR or a standard taxi for 17 EUR. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the hotel is very clean and well maintained with beautiful gardens, a world-class spa facility (which is complimentary for hotel guests, which is a 45 EUR value), and a fantastic pool area. My only complaint (and reason for a 4 rather than 5-star review) is that our room, 223, was a bit tired and in need of refurbishment. As nice as the rest of the hotel is (which is certainly 5-star), walking back into the room was a bit of a letdown, especially for the price. Furthermore, I'm sorry, but a 5-star hotel room should not have soap dispenser style toiletries in the shower. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel to other travellers, but would definitely suggest upgrading to the next level of room if it's within budget. I hope readers find my review and pictures helpful. Follow @TabesTravels for more.
