Made reservation for 1 at 7 pm for dinner which was confirmed via Sevenrooms. i arrive a few minutes early where the hostess proceeds to tell me they are fully booked and the only table they have is right in front of the front door. Every time the door would open I would have been dosed with cold air and the nonsense out front. I look around the empty room and there are several tables set for 2 and ask why I am going to sat here. She looks at me and says “this is all we have available.” I scan the room one more time, take a deep breath and tell her to cancel the reservation and then proceed to walk out. Annoyed. Then she runs after me to tell me she has a table that’s not in front of the door that I can have if I will be able to leave before 8:30 pm. I take the table because I’m just coming for dinner not to entertain etc. Here’s a question. Why couldn’t she just say that from the beginning? Why create an awful customer experience? This place was awarded a Michelin Star and I’m shocked. Service is one of the main categories and here’s the first strike. I wonder if I was white if she would have done the same thing? Makes one think.
I ordered the filet mignon and truffled Parmesan fries. For my cocktail, I ordered a very dirty vodka martini, which was good. Just the right amount of “dirty.” Things are starting to look up.
The restaurant was tastefully festively decorated, I was dining on 12/30/2023. There was a poinsettia tree and white twinkle lights draped in the windows. The room was lit to mimic candlelight which gave off a romantic vibe. If the hostess wasn’t so incompetent and daft, this would be a place I would have liked to bring my husband for dinner.
So, the fillet was on the boarder line of being overcooked. It was right on the edge. I’ve had better truffle fries and didn’t send them back because didn’t want to waste truffles. Which begs the question, who messes up truffle fries?

Read moreWe had a bad experience with a severely over cooked steak, hence the bad review. We ordered the filet frites (steak frites with filet mignon) and asked that the steak be cooked medium rare. When served, it is served sliced, and it was very obviously overcooked to medium well plus (the end bits were very well done). I was kind of full from the appetizers, so I just said to my waiter “I’m not going to send this back because I don’t care that much, but it’s definitely overdone, right? You can see that it’s not medium rare.” And he replied (no joke) “Sometimes the color of the actual meat varies, which is why it looks darker.” And I said “You’re kidding me, right?” And he basically shrugged and that was that. Look at the attached photos. I was in shock because I didn’t really care until he tried to pull the meat color variation line. And this is a steakhouse! Later in the meal, the waiter came over to say “I told the chef about the issue with the steak.” And that was it. No “Would you like us to remake it?” “Would you like something else?” “I’m so sorry.” None of that. Crazy! Aside from being overcooked and super dry, it was very tender and well seasoned.
Other than the crazy steak experience, we really enjoyed the food. We had the KFC chicken “nugget” app (pretty spicy), the calamari app (good sized portion, cool curry flavor, but not very crunchy), the tonkatsu Milanese (so tender and delicious!), and the zucchini (grilled Italian-style with sun dried tomatoes and Parmesan - it was okay).

I was greeted and shown such incredible service the entire time - the service staff is so professional, helpful and friendly. The food is truly tops!! I was told food in Malta can be hit or miss, but this place is a massive hit!!! I started with the staccatela salad - so fresh, a great portion with many vegetables and a delicious salad dressing. I then had the filet steak prepared medium-rare and it was done to perfection. The special house sauce to accompany it is to die for and so delicious with so many amazing flavors.
