If you're trying to outfit your family with gear, this is hands down the best deal we've found in Colorado - and we've done Christy's for several years and REI before that. As far as service goes, we felt it nothing short of spectacular. Elliot and his team took great care of us (our fitters were Charles, Malcolm, Brendan, and Dale) and each took ample time with our kids to determine both the correct boot and ski size. This was not an easy task: my kids are 8, 6, 4 1/2, and almost 3. Strong willed, stubborn, and easily bored. And let's be honest, getting fitted for ski boots isn't fun no matter how old you are. These guys were extremely patient and went out of their way to make sure the kids "had fun" while going through the process of trying on multiple boots. At one point (actually quite a few) my darling son decided it a great idea to rip apart every boot box he could find. Seriously, just kept ripping boxes despite all pleas and threats to stop. The he started grabbing random goggles out of boxes while we're fighting the 2 year old to get her boots on - trust me, this wasn't how you wanted to start a Saturday. I'm only including these details because the guys we worked with handled the situation like pros. Elliot and his team were up to the challenge, and when you have an experience that far exceeds expectations, you want to share these "hacks" with other parents. Strongly recommend. Plus given that I can return these next year for a 50% credit (if we need to), and walked out with 3 sets of new and 1 set of used for 800 bucks, this was the deal of the century.
I will add for context, not everyone will have the same experience we did. After 3 years of waiting until Oct/Nov to rent skis (holy epic waste of money) and knowing we needed 4 sets of all new equipment, we decided to be proactive. I also checked in with the store ahead of time to ask when the absolute "best" time to bring the kids in would be. I'm guessing based on past experiences the waiting will get longer - they even said, later in the season it's usually one fitter per family rather than one fitter per kid. That doesn't detract from the simple fact these guys knew what they were doing, were extremely helpful, and went out of their way to make our experience an excellent one (probably a good idea since we have 6 skiers in the family and have basically become a lifetime annuity).
For a final note, my service experience was equally fantastic when I went to pick the sticks up. While I was prepared with 4 ski straps and a boot bag, Dan insisted on helping me out and carrying the skis. I only mention it because that doesn't happen often - there was simply not a single thing these guys could have done to improve my experience, except maybe given me an IPA.
Thanks Boulder Ski Deals - you guys...
Read moreI have never had such poor service from a ski shop. I went in and bought a brand new pair of skis and bindings and then proceeded to have them mounted in store as well. At checkout I asked about how long it would take and the person helping me said no longer than a week. Two weeks go by, I call, they say they are working on them and should be ready by the end of the week. The end of the week comes around, no call. I call in the beginning of the following week and they proceed to put me on hold for 25 minutes while trying to get the status on my skis. I hang up after waitingg 25 minutes because I figured the employee most likely forgot I was on the line, considering it should only take about 2 minutes to check on my order status. I was patient and waited until the end of that week before I called again. When I called at the end of the week, a manager told me that the due date on my ticket was actually for November 19, a whole month and a half after I had originally been told they were gonna be ready. First off, it shouldn't take more than a week or two to get your skis returned too you. Second, the people I dealt with were inconsiderate. And third, the original due date I was told was a week from when I had dropped them off. The icing on the cake is that once they were ready I came in to pick them up and the bindings were center mounted, despite the fact that I had asked them to be mounted 4 cm behind center. All of this in combination with each other has caused for my single worst experience at any ski shop. I asked for a refund since they messed up the mount and drilled wholes in my skis where they shouldn't have and they declined. Instead they offered to remount my skis for free but after the experience I had I was not going to give them my skis for another month and a half. Terrible customer service and no expertise. Me and my friends will never be stepping foot in the Boulder Epic store again. The only person that was...
Read moreBrought my skis in for a simple DIN check. Was told to leave a boot with the skis because they couldn't get to them that day. The next day I got a call telling me that my new boots, that I bought the year before and skied on last year, would not fit my bindings. I was told I had to either buy new bindings or buy a new updated walking sole for my boot. I ordered the sole and the next day for a call from the warehouse asking about the sole. When asked about them I googled a picture of what she was talking about. As I had my other boot at home I looked and the boot which already had the sole. I told her to go ahead and send them to the shop. She told me they would be overnight shipped.
Continually called asking about the sole. 3 weeks later was told they still weren't in. I went to the shop with my boot. When they showed me the boot they had, it had the original sole on the bottom. When I showed them the one that I had, had the new sole on it they said I must have had the 2 different soles on them since last year. How would that have happened after I had skied on them last year? They had no explanation and the ordered sole still was not in after a month.
I can no longer trust this shop after many years of going to them. I feel they were playing games to make money and when caught they couldn't explain why it nor where the orders were. I'm still waiting for them to provide me with both the soles 2...
