The M-Line Streetcars are an interesting way of transportation but not really an effective away to get around. The trolleys were vintage equipment and looked neat. They added air conditioning to the roofs which takes away as a pure looking vintage car, but I see is necessary for the summer heat. The web site states that cars run every 17-20 minutes but I waited almost 25 minutes to get on. They have a car tracker and it appeared that one kept getting closer but then appeared to go in the other direction. Not sure if it really switched directions or was the tracker buggy. Once I got on, the ride appeared to be going well, but half way through the ride the operator informed us that we must get off and wait for the next one because he was going off duty and had to return the car back to the car barn. So again, this time I waited almost 20 minutes for the next car to show up. Also, it appears the cars go slower than what the web site states. It says you should do a full ride in an hour. I ended up getting off at the other end because I was almost 45 minutes into the ride, plus all the waiting. So this did not at all meet my expectations. If you have a lot of time and want to go on a joy ride, this is a perfect excursion type transit system. If you are trying to get somewhere at a certain time, stay away because the system timing...
Read moreMost of Trolley operators for this M-line are nice and friendly but I had a worst experience yesterday. I was hanging around Magnolia theater and West Village and a trolley car passed through a stop next to Starbucks, around 9:20 PM, 7/29/2014. The car stopped after about 200 feet because of the red right. I tried to catch it with my 3 year old on my shoulder but the operator smiled at me without opening the door. So I tried to give up and decided to wait for the next one. But the car stopped again after about 100 feet and opened the door and the operator came out and looked at us. I was glad so I started running with my son. There was no red light in front of the car nor traffic so apparently the car was waiting for us. I ran until I got close enough to reach my arms to the car and then operator abruptly closed the door and left. My son kept me asking why the train stopped but didn't give us ride. With frustration and humiliation I couldn't say anything to my little one. I still can't get away from the mocking, evil face of that operator until now. I don't want to be a victim of mockery so I'm never going back to ride...
Read moreThe trolley operator wasn't very nice, we are tourists and he got upset twice with us. We were at the stop (me and my 3 little kids) for 15 mins or so and called relatives to check when we would have the next trolley. I was told by a relative that it was better to walk to the train station because there were not any more trolleys today. We left and we see the trolley coming, so we ran to the stop and he stopped but told us that next time we had to be in the bus stop, he looked annoyed but we were like, he is right. Then, we didn't know if we had to stand up to let him know we were getting off, so we stood up. We were just at the stop but I guess he was about to keep going, and again, he looked annoyed and said, "next time you need to etc," so I said "oh, we can wait and get off at the next stop, no problem", he opened the door, and we said "thanks, we appreciate you letting us ride the trolley" but he didn't say anything. Since he wasn't very pleasant I don't think I will take the trolley again when I visit the US, just in case... The trolley itself is very nice, no a/c but it is a...
