Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center Hotel — Attraction in Denver

A 4 star rating for Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center Hotel is a joke. It costs like a 4 star hotel and looks like a 4 star hotel but treats you worse than a motel. Save your money. I will say the strawberry infused water in the lobby was a nice touch but that’s where the 4 star effort dies. The room is the same as a 2.5 star Marriott and I know because I just stayed in a similar room last night in Des Moines. I’m currently driving across country from NYC and staying at hotels through Priceline. It’s been an amazing run and each hotel stay has been better than the last from Michigan to Des Moines up until Denver. I wanted Denver to be exceptional so I increased the budget for this leg of the trip so I could be Downtown and see the sights with a better than average hotel stay for a special anniversary. Big mistake.

After waiting 20 minutes while on a long line of guests to check in as there was only one concierge helping an influx of guests, that same concierge was forced to operate the phone while checking all of us in. It would’ve been better to skip the attempt at this personal touch and just have a self check in option. In booking through Priceline I used filters to find a hotel with free parking and booked this stay with that expectation. Upon arrival the valet sign displays each overnight costs $59. Each hotel stay up until this point has been $30 valet service which is exactly why I added free parking to my search criteria. Once it was finally my turn to check in I explained my issue with the concierge and she explained that she’d be happy to comp my parking if I could replicate my booking process which I could not replicate for the exact night as there were no availabilities left. She did say saccharine sweetly that she’d be happy to cancel my reservation but she would not comp me unless I could duplicate my exact transaction. It was 10:30 pm, I had driven 7 hours from Omaha that day and there was a line of people behind me. Successfully dejected, I voiced my disappointment, reluctantly checked my family in, drove to another location and parked hoping my car won’t be broken into but unwilling to spend $60 on parking I had priced into what was significant for me to blow on one night in a mediocre room in a beautiful hotel in a spectacular city.

So with zero recourse and a great deal of frustration, I’m now writing this review and warning to anyone booking a room in this hotel to expect a truly picturesque lobby and expect disappointment in service from an establishment that has an unearned 4...

I usually do not leave a negative review but I feel the need to say something in case the actual management reads these comments. The hotel itself is neat, in good condition, and has a wonderful location. However, the staff needs more training when it comes to communication and providing services. I completely understand the labor market has been lacking people with experience and skills, but management could properly train and develop the ones available.

The night we got there, our flight was already delayed and we were very tired and got there late. we received a very cold welcome. I had requested for a higher floor, and I do understand if that is not available however, that could have been communicated in a better way. not, "well, you get what you get".

The next day while we were out, we were checked out of the hotel without our consent. I called the hotel and clearly, no one knows what they are doing. They were able to check us back in after someone figured out we were checked out on accident. "Well, this happens all the time they said" like really? do you even have to say that?. We came back to the room at night and well Thank God no one has been there or they were there , but did not just clean up.

On the day of check out, I requested an extended checkout time and they said ok, but get what? The housekeepers walked in while I was in the shower, again miss- communication.

on checking out, they charged me 3 times and I was trying to make sure this will be corrected also brought their attention to everything that has happened since we checked in. The response, oh I heard about the accidental check out, it happens sometimes. when I was trying to make sure the charges were fixed, " well the way hotel works". like really, do I look like a child or like this is my first time in a hotel?

Oh, the night we came in and we try to go out and get food, I decided to ask one of the staff the nearest place we could eat, she said it is not safe to go out except if we have protection. I was like, protection like a GUN? she said yes! I was in shock. This is my first time in Denver but I would have never thought Denver downtown was that dangerous. Hey, I understand her intention, every downtown is rough but the way she instilled fear like we were going to get mobbed if we stepped out.

We had to call friends and ask other people for safety. I kept wondering why Marriot has a hotel in such a dangerous environment. I traveled to brazil and more...

We have stayed at The Renaissance Downtown Denver multiple times in the past years and were huge fans of their quality of rooms, convenience, amenities and especially their outstanding service. Unfortunately, this visit was so disappointing that we will never be coming back.

•No robes as listed on website •Water pressure and temperatures not stable and inconsistent •Smells of gas and/or sewer in rooms and hallways •Short hairs everywhere in the bathroom including floors and showers and there were hair in the drain. When speaking with front desk in-person as it was after hours, he said that cleaners will get it as long as “do not disturb” sign was not on door- not sure if he had noted that in the system but nothing was done with the hair in bathroom floor and shower on cleaning day. •Young and inexperienced front desk employees not considering customer’s needs nor showing empathy and execution when we have brought up various things to their attention such as: The hair in bathroom situation Acknowledge our Marriott status and loyalty Specifically told them we were celebrating a birthday and were told they’d do something for us but complete silence and crickets even though I had reminded the front desk a little later and they said they’d bring something by the morning of checkout Asked for late checkout and was told it was 2PM but keys were deactivated when we came back at 1:45 and the only helpful front desk employee (Tyler… and Jenna, too) apologized that it wasn’t shown in the system - in other instances, Marriott has apologized and front desk offer something to make it right. Absolutely nothing in this case.

Additionally, because of our stay at The Renaissance in the past, we have purchased the hotel pillows and Aveda products. But during this stay, the beds were uncomfortable and probably needs to be replaced due to it sinking in certain areas, pillows were mediocre and lost its plushness, and the Aveda conditioner was watered down.

The room we stayed in had two TVs side by side and remote were slow to respond or either controlled both TVs… a pretty pointless setup.

Needless to say, we don’t feel like valued customers and completely turned off - will never be staying at The Renaissance Downtown Denver again and also considering transferring Marriott status to something else because of this terrible experience. It’s really sad to see such a beautiful hotel so poorly maintained and deteriorating and its service completely...
